Rimske Toplice, Laško
Rimske Toplice () is a settlement in the Municipality of Laško in eastern Slovenia. It lies on the right bank of the Savinja River on the road from Celje to Ljubljana via Zidani Most. The area is part of the traditional region of Styria. It is now included with the rest of the municipality in the Savinja Statistical Region. Geography The location of Rimske Toplice is surrounded by wooded slopes of the nearby mountains, providing shelter against wind and summer heat, and supporting rich vegetation of exotic plants from all over the world. These include giant sequoias, Canadian hemlocks, cypresses, and Californian cedars. Name The name ''Rimske Toplice'' literally means 'Roman hot springs'. The settlement was attested in written sources in 1265 as ''Toplitz'' (and as ''Töplitz'' in 1482 and ''Toplica'' in 1486). The name comes from the Slovene common noun ''toplica'' 'hot spring'. Anton Aškerc
Anton Aškerc (; 9 January 1856 – 10 June 1912) was a Slovenian poet and Roman Catholic priest who worked in Austria, best known for his epic poems. Aškerc was born into a peasant family near the town of Rimske Toplice in the Duchy of Styria, then part of the Austrian Empire (now in Slovenia), and baptized ''Anton Askerz''. His place of birth is recorded as at house no. 5 (i.e., the Hrušovar farm, his father's house) in Senožete, which at the time was a hamlet of Rimske Toplice (). However, family tradition says that he was born at house no. 15 in Globoko, Laško, Globoko. After graduating from I. High School in Celje, high school in Celje he entered the Roman Catholic theology, theological seminary in Maribor. He was ordained a priest in 1880.
