Rimouski (provincial Electoral District)
Rimouski () is a provincial electoral district in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region of Quebec, Canada, that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It notably includes the municipalities of Rimouski and Saint-Anaclet-de-Lessard. It was created for the 1867 election (and an electoral district of that name existed earlier in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada and the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada). In the change from the 2001 to the 2011 electoral map, it lost Lac-des-Aigles and Biencourt to the newly created Rivière-du-Loup–Témiscouata electoral district. 2008 Quebec General Election
The 2008 Quebec general election was held in the Canadian province of Quebec on December 8, 2008. The Quebec Liberal Party, under incumbent Premier Jean Charest, was re-elected with a majority government, marking the first time since the 1950s (when the Union Nationale of Maurice Duplessis won four consecutive elections) that a party or leader was elected to a third consecutive mandate, and the first time for the Liberals since the 1930s, when Louis-Alexandre Taschereau was Premier. The 2008 election also marked the first time that Québec solidaire won a seat. Irvin Pelletier
Irvin Pelletier (born May 28, 1946 in Sayabec, Quebec) is a Quebec politician and notary. He was the Member of National Assembly of Quebec for the riding of Rimouski for the Parti Québécois. Pelletier went to Université Laval and received a bachelor's degree in pedagogy. He also attended the Université de Sherbrooke and obtained a master's degree in commercial sciences. He then became a notary for nearly 30 years and also a lecturer at Université du Québec à Rimouski where he was also an administration member. Harold LeBel
Harold LeBel (; born June 22, 1962) is a former Canadian politician and convicted sex offender in Quebec, who was elected to the National Assembly of Quebec in the 2014 election. He represented the electoral district of Rimouski as a member of the Parti Québécois. He was a candidate for the party three times previously, running in Rivière-du-Loup in the 1989 election and the 1994 election, and in Kamouraska-Témiscouata in the 2003 election. On December 15, 2020, he was arrested following allegations of sexual assault against Catherine Fournier, a former member of the National Assembly and current mayor of Longueuil, dating back to 2017. He was released later that day, and subsequently expelled from the PQ caucus, pending further investigations.
