Riley Reddish
Riley Reddish (December 22, 1933 – April 1, 2008) was an American politician. He served as a Democratic member for the 6th district of the Georgia State Senate. Life and career Reddish was born in Wayne County, Georgia. He attended Georgia Southern College. Reddish was a Wayne County sheriff. Wayne County, Georgia
Wayne County is a county located in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 30,144. The county seat is Jesup. Wayne County comprises the Jesup, Georgia micropolitan statistical area. History At the time of European contact, the area of what would become Wayne County was settled by the Guale people. Being close to the coast and bordered by the Altamaha River, Wayne County's history includes occupation by Spanish missionaries at the time of the settlement of Saint Augustine as well as short-lived French occupation. The flags of France, Spain, England, and the Confederate States of America all flew over Wayne. ''The Telegraph'', frequently called The Macon Telegraph, is the primary print news organ in Middle Georgia. The ''Savannah Morning News'' is a daily newspaper in Savannah, Georgia. It is published by Gannett. The motto of the paper is "Light of the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry". The paper serves Savannah, its Savannah metropolitan area, metropolitan area, and parts of South Carolina. History William Tappan Thompson, author of the ''Major Jones'' series of humorous stories, along with John McKinney Cooper as publisher and owner, founded the paper on January 15, 1850 as the ''Daily Morning News''. At the end of the American Civil War, Civil War in 1865, John Cooper was pardoned by President Andrew Johnson allowing him to retain ownership of the paper. Its name was changed to the ''Daily News and Herald'', though Thompson remained as editor. Thompson left the paper in 1867 to travel in Europe.
