Rijeka Mosque
Rijeka Mosque (Croatian and Bosnian: ''Džamija u Rijeci'') is a mosque in Rijeka, Croatia built between 2009 and 2013. The project of the mosque and the cultural center was originally developed by Dušan Džamonja in cooperation with Branko Vučinović and Darko Vlahović. The entire project costed 76 million Croatian kuna with significant contribution by the state of Qatar. Croatian media described the building as one of the most beautiful mosques in Europe. The mosque is a part of the Islamic Cultural Center which was built on the 10,816 square meters plot and which itself covers 5,291 square meters (3,612 square meters of closed space). Islam is the most widespread religion in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was introduced to the local population in the 15th and 16th centuries as a result of the Ottoman conquest of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Muslims comprise the single largest religious community in Bosnia and Herzegovina (51%) (the other two large groups being Eastern Orthodox Christians (31%), almost all of whom identify as Serbs, and Roman Catholics (15%), almost all of whom identify as Croats. Bosniaks of Croatia are one of the ethnic minorities of the Republic of Croatia. In the 2011 census, there were 31,479 Bosniaks or 0.73% of the total population, making them the third largest ethnic group in the country. Bosniaks are officially recognized as an autochthonous national minority, and as such, they elect a special representative to the Croatian Parliament, shared with members of four other national minorities. Croatia is a predominantly Christian country, with Islam being a minority faith. It is followed by 1.3% of the country's population according to the 2021 census. Islam was first introduced to Croatia by the Ottoman Empire during the Croatian–Ottoman Wars that lasted from the 15th to 16th century. Gunja Mosque (Croatian and Bosnian: ''Džamija u Gunji'') is the oldest active mosque in Croatia built in 1969. It is located in the village of Gunja in the Croatian part of Syrmia. History Today the Gunja Mosque is the oldest mosque in Croatia in continuous use. Historically, during the Ottoman rule, there was a significantly larger number of mosques in Croatia. At one point there were 250 of them, but as of 2014 only 3 structures remained standing. The largest and most representative one of them, Ibrahim Pasha's Mosque, is located in eastern Croatian town of Đakovo but is today used as the Roman Catholic Church of All Saints. Zagreb Mosque
The Zagreb Mosque, located in the city of Zagreb, is the largest mosque in Croatia. The Islamic Secondary School "Dr. Ahmed Smajlović" and a cultural centre operate within the mosque. The construction began in 1981 and finished in 1987. Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, the Emir of Sharjah, donated US$2.5 million for the construction of the mosque.
