Wrightbus is a Northern Irish bus manufacturer and a pioneer of the low-floor bus. The company was established in 1946 by Robert Wright and was later run by his son William Wright (Northern Ireland politician), William Wright, until it was acquired in 2019 by British businessman Jo Bamford. History 1940s to 1970s – Early years Wrightbus was founded in 1946 as Robert Wright & Son Coachbuilders. In its early years it rebodied lorries. Wightbus
Wightbus was a bus operator on the Isle of Wight, established and owned by Mr Anand Pandya, Mr Ryan Reed, and the Isle of Wight County Council. It operated a network of thirteen local bus services running across the island, mostly services which would not have been viable for the island's dominant commercial operator, Southern Vectis, to operate. Wightbus also provided school buses, and transported disabled adults to various day care centres on behalf of the council's social services department. A demand responsive transport, dial-a-bus service was run over some parts of the island to residents who would be unable to leave their homes to catch a regular service bus. The Wightbus fleet was made up of 27 vehicles with capacities ranging from 16 to 72. Around 40 trained drivers and passenger-escort staff were employed. Dennis Javelin
The Dennis Javelin (later known as the Alexander Dennis Javelin) was an underfloor-engined bus and coach chassis manufactured by Dennis and later Alexander Dennis. It was unveiled in 1986 and acted more or less as a modern replacement for the discontinued Bedford Y series. It also supplanted the heavier Dennis Dorchester. While proving a success, it has never matched its nearest rival, the likewise heavier Volvo B10M, but has had much more success than Dennis's previous coaching industry attempts: The Falcon V, the Lancet and Dorchester. Over 2,000 were produced, with 500 purchased by the Ministry of Defence. Exports In 1996, Australian operator Fearne's Coaches, Wagga Wagga took delivery of four MotorCoach Australia bodied Javelins. New Zealand operator Ritchies Coachlines took delivery of nine Designline and Kiwi Bus Builders bodied Javelins between 1999 and 2005.

The Wright Pathfinder was a low entry and low floor single-decker bus body built on Dennis Lance SLF and Scania N113CRL chassis by Wrightbus between 1993 and 1995. Wright Urbanranger
The Wright Endurance was a step-entrance single-decker bus body on Scania N113 and on Volvo B10B chassis by Wrightbus between 1992 and 1997. Design The Wright Endurance was unveiled in November 1991 as the company's first single-decker 'city bus' body, having previously specialised on coach and midibus bodies. It was the early basis of a Wright body suitable for a low-floor bus chassis, with the bodywork constructed with an Alusuisse bolted aluminium frame onto the chassis. The Endurance featured a low step at the entrance door, capable of being lowered to at the kerbside via the 'kneeling' function of the chassis, supplemented with the fitting of a manual extendable ramp for wheelchair users. Volvo B10B
The Volvo B10B was a rear-engined step deck single-decker bus chassis manufactured by Volvo between 1992 and 2001. The first prototype were built in 1990, but the B10B wasn't launched until the 1992 Geneva Motor Show. It superseded the Leyland Lynx (by then a Volvo product) and Volvo B10R. For stage use it was gradually succeeded by the low-entry B10BLE, which was introduced only a year later, though not in all markets. For interurban use the B7R came as a gradual replacement in 1998, and ultimately for coach work, the B12B took over in 2001. The B10B was not generally available with a natural gas or biogas engine, like the B10BLE, but two buses were bodied by Vest Karosseri for NSB Biltrafikk in Stavanger in 1998 and 1999. The Northern Counties Paladin, also badged as the Plaxton Paladin towards the end of production, is a step-entrance single-decker bus body built by Northern Counties of Wigan, UK, between 1991 and 1998. The replacements for the Paladin are the Prestige and the Pointer as low-floor models for the Paladin LF. Description Development of the Northern Counties Paladin commenced in 1990. Alexander Strider
The Alexander Strider was a single-decker bus coachwork, body produced by Walter Alexander Coachbuilders between 1993 and 1997. The body was available on Dennis Lance, Scania L113, Scania N113, Volvo B10B and Volvo B10M chassis. A common feature of the Strider body is that it has either a single-curvature windscreen or a double-curvature windscreen with a rounded roof dome and a separately mounted destination display. Operators Yorkshire Rider were the largest customer overall for the Alexander Strider, taking delivery of 55 on Scania N113 chassis and 30 on Volvo B10B chassis between 1993 and 1994. 20 of the Scania N113s, delivered in 1994, were equipped with guide wheels and branded in a silver, blue and red livery for Rider's 'Superbus' Leeds guided busway service.
