''Razorblade Romance'' is the second studio album by Finnish gothic rock band HIM, recorded with producer John Fryer. HIM initially began recording the album with producer Hiili Hiilesmaa, who had helmed the group's 1997 debut album, however these sessions proved unsuccessful, and HIM parted ways with Hiilesmaa, and recruited Fryer. The band, along with Fryer, relocated to Rockfield Studios in Wales to begin recording, and released the album on 24 January 2000. Musically, the album featured a sleeker production and a more melodic sound compared to their debut. The album's lead single " Join Me in Death" would prove to be HIM's breakthrough single, reaching number one in Finland and Germany. The song also found its way on to the soundtrack of the 1999 science fiction film ''The Thirteenth Floor''. HIM (Finnish Band)
HIM (sometimes stylized as H.I.M.) was a Finnish gothic rock band from Helsinki. First formed in 1991 by vocalist Ville Valo and bassist Mige (musician), Mikko "Mige" Paananen under the name His Infernal Majesty, the band broke up after only a few years, only to be reformed in 1995 by Valo and guitarist Linde Lindström, Mikko "Linde" Lindström. After being rejoined by Mige, as well as keyboardist Antto Melasniemi and drummer Juhana "Pätkä" Rantala, the band, now called HIM, released its debut album ''Greatest Lovesongs Vol. 666'' in 1997. In 2000, now with drummer Gas Lipstick, Mika "Gas Lipstick" Karppinen and keyboardist Juska Salminen, the band released ''Razorblade Romance'', which reached the number one spot in Finland, Austria and Germany. George Marino
George Marino (April 15, 1947June 4, 2012) was an American mastering engineer known for working on albums by rock bands starting in the late 1960s. Biography Marino was born on April 15, 1947, in the New York City borough The Bronx. He attended Christopher Columbus High School there and learned to play the saxophone and bass fiddle in the high school band and was classically trained on guitar. Marino broke into the music business as a guitarist playing rock and roll in local New York City bands such as The Chancellors and The New Sounds Ltd. until most of the band members were drafted into the service for the war in Vietnam. Finnvox
Finnvox Studios is a recording studio located in Pitäjänmäki, Helsinki, Finland. It was founded by Erkki Ertesuo, Kurt Juuranto and Lejos Inc. in 1965 and is the longest running studio recording facility in Finland. The original multi-track recording equipment and continuous technical updates of the studio machines and acoustics soon made Finnvox the most sought after studio in the country. Finnish artists that recorded at Finnvox in the 1970s include Rauli Somerjoki, M. A. Numminen and their bands, Wigwam, Agit-prop and many others. Up until the 1990s, Finnvox also operated a vinyl record mastering and pressing facility, which was later converted to new studio rooms and a mixing and recording room for film and TV productions. Risto Hemmi
Risto Hemmi (born 1956, Kuopio) is a prominent figure in the Finnish music industry. For a long time, he was the CEO of Finland's largest recording studio, Finnvox Studios, and is still a board member and one of the owners. Hemmi began his career at Finnvox in 1979 and has worked in various capacities such as a sound engineer, mixer, and studio manager. He served as the CEO of the studio from 1993 until recently. All of Finnvox's nine studios have been designed by Hemmi. One of Hemmi's early commercially successful works was the Pelle Miljoona Oy's album "Moottoritie on kuuma" (1980). Hemmi has recorded and mixed over 500 albums, many of which have achieved gold or platinum status.
