Marinus H. "Rien" van IJzendoorn (May 14, 1952) is professor of human development and one of the co-leaders of Generation R at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. His work has focussed on the social, psychological, and neurobiological determinants of parenting and child development, with special emphasis on attachment, emotion regulation, differential susceptibility hypothesis, and child maltreatment. Biography In 1976, van IJzendoorn graduated cum laude at the University of Amsterdam. Two years later he obtained his PhD magna cum laude at the Free University of Berlin/Max Planck Institute for Human Development and Education. After this he continued his work at Leiden University. Marinus Adriaan "Rien" Kaashoek (November 10, 1937 – November 21, 2024) was a Dutch mathematician, and Emeritus Professor Analysis and Operator Theory at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. Biography Born in Ridderkerk, Kaashoek has studied mathematics at the Leiden University, where he received his PhD in 1964 under supervision of Adriaan Zaanen. Kaashoek had started his academic career as assistant at the Leiden University from 1959 to 1962, and Junior Staff Member from 1962 to 1965. In 1966 he started as senior lecturer at the Vrije Universiteit, where in 1969 he was appointed professor. Among his doctoral students is Harm Bart (1973). Rien Michael Long (born August 7, 1981) is an American former professional football player who was a defensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Washington State Cougars, earning consensus All-American honors and recognition as the top college interior lineman in 2002. The Tennessee Titans chose him in the fourth round of the 2003 NFL draft, and he played for the Titans until his pro career was cut short by injuries. Rien Poortvliet (; 7 August 1932 – 15 September 1995) was a Dutch artist and illustrator. Life Born in Schiedam, Poortvliet was best known for his drawings of animals and for "Gnomes (book), Gnomes", a famous series of illustrated books with text by Wil Huygen. Poortvliet did not attend art school and his family discouraged him from becoming an artist: `My family thought that artists were, you know, a little bit dangerous, all those naked women, all that drinking all night." Instead, Poortvliet's father wanted him pursue a profession that would produce a stable income, so Poortvliet began a career in advertising, initially drawing scenes of families for soap companies. Rink "Rien" van der Velde (born 21 February 1957) is a Dutch politician. He was a member of the House of Representatives of the Netherlands for the Labour Party between 25 October 2016 and 23 March 2017. He entered the House as a temporary replacement of Sjoera Dikkers. On 14 December 2016 he became a permanent member of the House when he took the place of the resigned parliamentary group leader Diederik Samsom. Rien is a village in Súdwest-Fryslân municipality in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 110 in January 2017.
