Ridley Island is an island lying north of False Round Point, King George Island, in the South Shetland Islands. This island was known to both American and British sealers as early as 1822, and the name Ridley is well established in international usage. Antarctic Treaty System
The Antarctic Treaty and related agreements, collectively known as the Antarctic Treaty System (ATS), regulate international relations with respect to Antarctica, Earth's only continent without a native human population. It was the first arms control agreement established during the Cold War, designating the continent as a scientific preserve, establishing freedom of scientific investigation, and banning Military activity in the Antarctic, military activity; for the purposes of the treaty system, Antarctica is defined as all the land and ice shelf, ice shelves south of 60th parallel south, 60°S latitude. False Round Point
False Round Point is a point west of North Foreland and south of Ridley Island, on the north coast of King George Island (South Shetland Islands), King George Island in the South Shetland Islands of Antarctica. The point has appeared on charts since about 1822. It was probably named for its similarity to Round Point, which lies to the west, by Discovery Investigations personnel on the ''RRS Discovery II, Discovery II'' who charted the north coast of this island in 1937. Important Bird Area A 125 ha tract of ice-free land, including the headland, has been identified as an Important Bird Area (IBA) by BirdLife International because it supports a large bird colony, breeding colony of about 50,000 pairs of chinstrap penguins.
