Ricochet (Kings Dominion)
Apple Zapple (formerly known as Ricochet) is a Wild Mouse roller coaster located at Kings Dominion in Doswell Doswell is an unincorporated community in Hanover County in the Central Region of the U.S. Commonwealth of Virginia. History On August 1, 2001, Kings Dominion announced that they would be adding Ricochet. The coaster opened on March 23, 2002. In February 2018, as part of general renovations to the "Candy Apple Grove" area, it was announced Ricochet would be renamed Apple Zapple, to better fit the area's theme. The ride reopened under its new name on March 24, 2018. Ride experience The ride sends a 10-car, 4-person-per-car train along the 1,312.3 ft track at 35 mph. Lift Hill
A lift hill, or chain hill, is an upward-sloping section of track on a roller coaster on which the roller coaster train is mechanically lifted to an elevated point or peak in the track. A wild mouse is a type of roller coaster consisting of single or spinning cars traversing a tight-winding track with an emphasis on sharp, unbanked turns. The upper portion of the track usually features multiple 180-degree turns, known as flat turns, that produce high lateral G-forces even at modest speeds. Doswell
Doswell is an unincorporated community in Hanover County in the Central Region of the U.S. Commonwealth of Virginia. Originally called Hanover Junction, it was located on the Virginia Central Railroad (later, part of the C&O) at a crossing of the Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad, a north–south route. Both railroads are now owned by CSX Transportation, although the former Virginia Central line is leased to a short-line carrier, Buckingham Branch Railroad. A ricochet ( ; ) is a rebound, bounce, or skip off a surface, particularly in the case of a projectile. Most ricochets are caused by accident and while the force of the deflection decelerates the projectile, it can still be energetic and almost as dangerous as before the deflection. Hairpin Turn
A hairpin turn (also hairpin bend or hairpin corner) is a bend in a road with a very acute inner angle, making it necessary for an oncoming vehicle to turn about 180° to continue on the road. It is named for its resemblance to a bent metal hairpin. Such turns in ramps and trails may be called switchbacks in American English, by analogy with switchback railways.
