Rick Paulas is an American author and journalist. He gained notoriety for his activism and for pioneering unique distribution methods of his works. Early life Paulas was born in Oak Forest, Illinois, a suburb near Chicago, and was raised Catholic. He became a fan of the Chicago White Sox during his childhood. Career Freelance journalism Paulas began his writing career as a freelance journalist. He emailed editors at online publications seeking to get published and ultimately spent fifteen years writing for outlets such as ''The Awl'', ''Wired'', ''Vice'', ''McSweeney's'', ''Curbed'' and ''Longreads''. Oak Forest, Illinois
Oak Forest is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The city is out south-southwest of downtown Chicago in Bremen Township. Per the 2020 census, the population was 27,478. History Human habitation in Oak Forest began during the early Holocene. This is made evident by the remains of hunting camps on what would become the grounds of the city's hospital. Several millennia later, the final known indigenous settlement in Oak Forest, a Potawatomi longhouse village, was established nearby. However, it was abandoned by the 1620s. The origins of present-day Oak Forest begins with a railroad whistle stop on the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad 1 block south of the intersection of 167th street and Central Avenue which primarily served area dairy farmers. The gig economy is the economic system by which a workforce of people (known as gig workers) engage in freelance and/or side-employment. Description The gig economy is composed of corporate entities, workers and consumers. The ''Street Sheet'' is a street newspaper published and sold in San Francisco, California which focuses on the problems of homeless people in the city, and on issues of poverty and housing. Founded in 1989, the Street Sheet is second only to the Street News as the oldest extant street newspaper in the United States and currently has the largest circulation of a street newspaper with 32,000 papers distributed monthly. The Coalition on Homelessness publishes the newspaper, and vendors distribute the paper on the streets of San Francisco, usually in exchange for a two-dollar donation. Street newspapers (or street papers) are newspapers or magazines sold by homeless or poor individuals and produced mainly to support these populations. Most such newspapers primarily provide coverage about homelessness and poverty-related issues, and seek to strengthen social networks within homeless communities.
