Rick Newsom
Rick Newsom (March 19, 1950 – August 16, 1988), was an American NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, Winston Cup driver from Fort Mill, South Carolina. Newsom competed in 82 Winston Cup races from 1972 to 1986. Fort Mill, also known as Fort Mill Township, is a town in York County, South Carolina, United States. It is a suburb of Charlotte, North Carolina. The Coke Zero Sugar 400 is an annual NASCAR Cup Series stock car race at Daytona International Speedway. First held in 1959, the event consists of 160 laps, , and is the second of two major stock car events held at Daytona on the Cup Series circuit, the other being the Daytona 500. Stock car races events in the NASCAR Cup Series have been held annually at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan since 1969. The race, currently known as FireKeepers Casino 400 for sponsorship reasons, is currently held as a 200 lap, 400 mile (640 km) race. Denny Hamlin is the defending winner of the race.
