Rick Husband
Richard Douglas Husband (July 12, 1957 – February 1, 2003) was an American astronaut and fighter pilot. He traveled into space twice: as pilot of STS-96 and commander of STS-107. Husband and the rest of the crew of STS-107 were killed when ''Columbia'' disintegrated during reentry into the Earth's atmosphere. He is also a recipient of the Congressional Space Medal of Honor. Early life, education and training Husband was born on July 12, 1957, in Amarillo, Texas. At age 17, he earned his pilot's license while flying out of Tradewind Airport. Husband graduated with honors from Amarillo High School in 1975. Husband earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Texas Tech University in 1980 after five years of study. The Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC; or ) is a group of college- and university-based officer-training programs for training commissioned officers of the United States Armed Forces. Amarillo High School is a school located in the city of Amarillo, Texas, United States and is one of four high schools in the Amarillo Independent School District and classified as a 5A school by the University Interscholastic League (UIL). Tradewind Airport
Tradewind Airport is a privately owned public use airport in Randall County, Texas, United States. It is located three nautical miles (3.5 mi, 5.6 km) southeast of the central business district of Amarillo, Texas. Established in 1946 by Shelby Kritser, Tradewind airport has been a hub for general aviation in Amarillo. Shelby Kritser died in 1966 in an aircraft accident. After his death the airport was sold to Jimmy Whittenburg who owned and operated the airport until 2001, who then sold the airport to Perry Williams who owns and operates the airport today.
