Richmond Road (Ottawa Road #36) is a major road in Eastern Ontario, Canada. Richmond Road begins as a western continuation of Wellington Street West in Ottawa, beyond the intersection at Island Park Drive (Ottawa), Island Park Drive, a division point moved west a few blocks from Western Avenue, the historical township boundary, in 2005. It serves as the primary road for Westboro, Ottawa, Westboro. Continuing westward, the road passes by Ottawa landmarks such as the Lincoln Fields Mall, Bayshore Shopping Centre and Queensway Carleton Hospital. At the intersection with Baseline Road (Ottawa), Baseline Road (Ottawa Road 16), it gives way to Robertson Road just before reaching Bells Corners, Ontario, Bells Corners, due to a name change made in 2012. At the historical corner, the prior route of Richmond Road diverges to the south as a mostly residential street named Old Richmond Road. The Jock River, known locally as the Mighty Jock, is a river in Ottawa and Lanark County in Eastern Ontario, Canada. Shows the course of the river highlighted on a topographic map. It is in the Saint Lawrence River drainage basin and is a left tributary of the Rideau River. Cyril Lloyd Francis (March 19, 1920 – January 20, 2007) was a Canadian politician and speaker of the House of Commons. A member of the Liberal Party, he represented Carleton and Ottawa West in the House of Commons. Biography Following service in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II, Francis earned a Master of Arts (MA) and doctorate (Ph.D) in economics, and lectured in the discipline from 1948 to 1951 at the University at Buffalo. John Lowry Gourlay
John Lowry Gourlay (1821–1905) was an Irish Presbyterian minister and missionary in Upper Canada. Life John Lowry Gourlay was born in 1821 in Drumquin, County Tyrone, Ireland, the son of John Gourlay and Jane Lowry. He emigrated to Upper Canada with his parents, brothers Hugh, William, James, and sister Rebecca. They left Bytown, "walking out through the stumps of the Richmond Road, stopping for a mid-day meal at William Bell's tavern, spending the night at Billy Bradley's log tavern at Hazeldean, and proceeding to Stittsville the next day and then up the third line of Huntley". Bytown
Bytown is the former name of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It was founded on September 26, 1826, incorporated as a town on January 1, 1850, and superseded by the incorporation of the City of Ottawa on January 1, 1855. The founding was marked by a sod turning, and a letter from Governor General Dalhousie which authorized Lieutenant Colonel John By to divide up the town into lots. Bytown came about as a result of the construction of the Rideau Canal and grew largely due to the Ottawa River timber trade. Bytown's first mayor was John Scott, elected in 1847.
