Richmond Kickers Academy
The Richmond Kickers Academy is the official youth system of the Richmond Kickers, a professional soccer club based in Richmond, Virginia that compete in USL Pro. The Kickers Academy features two youth teams, a U-18 and U-16 side, who both compete in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. The Academy also features a Pre-Academy, U-14 side, who also compete in the Academy leagues. The Academy was formally founded in 2008. Rob Ukrop
Rob Ukrop (born April 5, 1970 in Richmond, Virginia) is an American former soccer player who currently serves as Chairman of USL League One club Richmond Kickers. Ukrop, part of the Ukrop's Super Market family, grew up in Richmond where he attended Collegiate School where he starred with both the school's golf and soccer teams. When Ukrop graduated from high school in 1988, he had roster offers from Wake Forest and the University of Richmond. However, he chose to attend Davidson College. He was a member of the Sigma chapter of the Kappa Alpha Order. At the time, Davidson had no soccer pedigree, but Ukrop brought it into national prominence during his four and a half seasons there. His junior year, Ukrop scored 22 goals and assisted on 12, earning him second team All American honors. However, he broke his leg at the start of the 1991 season. Ihor Dotsenko
Ihor Dotsenko (born 29 July 1974) is a retired Ukrainian-American soccer player who spent most of his career in the lower U.S. divisions, but played two games with the Kansas City Wizards of Major League Soccer. He is currently the Technical Director for the Richmond Kickers. Player Dotsenko, a native of Ukraine attended Wake Forest University where he played on the men's soccer team from 1994 to 1997. In 1998, he signed with the Richmond Kickers of the USISL. In the fall of 1998, he signed with the Philadelphia KiXX of the National Professional Soccer League (NPSL). He would play two indoor winter seasons with the KiXX. In 1999, Dotsenko moved to the expansion Lehigh Valley Steam of the USL A-League. The Steam folded at the end of the season and in 2000, Dotsenko joined the Raleigh Capital Express. Richmond Kickers is an American professional soccer club based in Richmond, Virginia. The Kickers compete as a member of USL League One (USL-1). The club was established in 1993, and began play that same year as a United States Interregional Soccer League (now USL League Two) expansion team, which at the time, was the fourth tier of soccer in the United States. The club's majority owner is 22 Holdings, LLC, and its minority owners are Richmond Kickers Youth Soccer Club and the Ukrop family, a prominent family from the Greater Richmond Region who founded the Ukrop's grocery chain. Richmond Kickers Future was an American soccer team based in Richmond, Virginia, United States. Founded in 2002 as part of the development system of the Richmond Kickers USL Second Division franchise, the team played in the USL Premier Development League (PDL), the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid, until 2009, when the franchise folded and the team left the league.
