Richmond Country Club
The Richmond Country Club is a private social gathering place and sports facility for golf in the Hilltop District of Richmond, California, United States. History The land was originally inhabited by the Ohlone people; Spanish conquistadores colonized the land in the 1840s and developed the Rancho San Pablo. The Richmond Country Club began formerly known as the Carquinez Golf Club, established in 1924. The club began to struggle during the deep recession. Which was a semi-private club meaning if you weren’t a member a round of golf could be played for 5 cents. It’s manager and head professional, Ed Sawyer, has been found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Ed poured his own money into the Carquinez CC until he ran out of cash. There were less than 40 members at that time. The course had been redesigned to the present configuration in the early 1930s, but was in poor condition and still lacked the necessary water for proper irrigation. The few existing members ... Salesian College Preparatory (formerly Salesian High School and Salesian House of Studies) is a private, Roman Catholic, co-educational, college-preparatory high school in Richmond, California, United States. Established in 1927, it is part of the Salesians of Don Bosco and is located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Oakland. It is a Salesian school and is situated on in the North & East neighborhood. AC Transit
AC Transit (Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District) is an Oakland-based public transit agency serving the western portions of Alameda and Contra Costa counties in the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area. AC Transit also operates "Transbay" routes across San Francisco Bay to San Francisco and selected areas in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. AC Transit is constituted as a special district under California law. It is governed by seven elected members (five from geographic wards and two at large). Parchester Village
Parchester Village is a planned majority African-American village in northwestern Richmond, California that was the first in the state to sell to blacks. History After World War II temporary housing was torn down in Richmond, many black residents were not allowed to move into what was left. This culminated in the efforts of Reverend Guthrie John Williams, who in 1949 cut a deal that exchanged support for council member Amos Hinkley for more black housing. Although Hinkley did not win reelection, he did introduce Williams to Fred Parr, a wealthy white real estate developer who helped to develop the 400 or so single story homes. Parchester Village was originally planned as the first residential development for "All Americans", but became an all-black neighborhood when whites lost interest in purchasing here after finding out it was to be racially mixed. Hilltop Horizon, formerly known as Hilltop Mall, East Bay Science and Technology Center and The Shops At Hilltop, was a regional shopping center in the Hilltop neighborhood of Richmond, California. Hilltop is managed and co-owned by Prologis, Inc. The anchor store is Walmart. There are 3 vacant anchor stores that were once Macy's, JCPenney and Sears. Giant (formerly, Nitro) was an unincorporated community, now within Point Pinole Regional Shoreline, and annexed to Richmond in Contra Costa County, California. It lies at an elevation of 23 feet (7 m). History The town of Nitro—Giant was established in 1892 as a company town by the Giant Powder Company. The company moved its manufacturing facilities to this location, after a factory explosion demolished the two previous plants in Glen Canyon in San Francisco, and on the Cerrito de San Antonio (renamed Albany Hill in 1909) in the then unincorporated northwest corner of Alameda County adjacent to the city of Berkeley. Silverado Resort And Spa
The Silverado Resort and Spa is a golf, tennis, and spa resort in Napa County, California, United States. The venue is named after the Silverado Mine, a quicksilver mine near Mount Saint Helena. The resort is the fifth largest employer in Napa County. The United States Census Bureau has designated the area surrounding the Silverado Resort as a separate census-designated place (CDP) for statistical purposes. The population of the CDP was 1,095 at the 2010 census. In October 2017, parts of the resort were damaged by wildfires; flames arrived hours after the conclusion of the Safeway Open. Silverado Trail
The Silverado Trail is a scenic route that travels 29 miles along the Eastern edge of the Napa Valley, parallel to and several miles to the east of California State Route 29. History The road began as a trail built in 1852 after flooding made the main Napa Valley road impassable. Later, it served as a wagon trail to link cinnabar mines on Mount St. Helena to San Pablo Bay, the northern portion of the San Francisco Bay, and was the first permanent road from Napa to Calistoga. Silver was discovered in Napa Valley in 1858, and wine production began in the 1870s, making the road an important trade route. Charles Bolles, a highway bandit also known as "Black Bart", preyed on the road's travelers in the 1880s. Safety improved when motorized bus service began in 1910.
