Edgar Wallace
Richard Horatio Edgar Wallace (1 April 1875 – 10 February 1932) was a British writer of crime and adventure fiction. Born into poverty as an illegitimate London child, Wallace left school at the age of 12. He joined the army at age 21 and was a war correspondent during the Second Boer War for Reuters and the ''Daily Mail''. Struggling with debt, he left South Africa, returned to London and began writing thrillers to raise income, publishing books including ''The Four Just Men (novel), The Four Just Men'' (1905). Drawing on his time as a reporter in the Congo, covering Atrocities in the Congo Free State, the Belgian atrocities, Wallace serialised short stories in magazines such as ''The Windsor Magazine'' and later published collections such as ''Sanders of the River'' (1911). He signed with Hodder and Stoughton in 1921 and became an internationally recognised author. Richard Alfred Wallace (June 3, 1861 – March 12, 1935) was a Canadian teacher, cook, farmer and politician on the municipal and territorial level. Wallace ran in his first election in the 1898 Northwest Territories general election. He defeated four other candidates in a closely contested election winning just over 38% of the vote to capture the High River electoral district. He was re-elected with nearly 70% of the vote in the 1902 Northwest Territories general election. Richard Wallace (director)
Richard Wallace (August 26, 1894 – November 3, 1951) was an American film director. He began working in the editing department at Mack Sennett Studios in the early 1920s. He later moved on to rival Hal Roach Studios where he began directing two-reel films, on some of which he collaborated with Stan Laurel. In 1926, Wallace began directing feature-length films. Several of Wallace's memorable films include three Shirley Temple films, ''A Night to Remember (1943 film), A Night to Remember'' (1943) with Loretta Young, and ''The Little Minister (1934 film), The Little Minister'' (1934) with Katharine Hepburn. He was a founding member of the Directors Guild of America. He died of a heart attack. Richard Wallace (born 1961) was the editor of British newspaper the ''Daily Mirror'' until May 2012. Early career Wallace began his Fleet Street career working for the ''Daily Mail'' and ''The Sun''. In 1990 he joined the ''Daily Mirror''. During Piers Morgan's editorship of the paper he became show business editor, before becoming head of news in 2000. Notable among Wallace's scoops was the news that actor Ross Kemp was leaving the BBC soap opera EastEnders in favour of working for rival channel ITV. He was also responsible for the creation of the gossip columnists The 3AM Girls. In 2002 he swapped jobs with the paper's New York editor, Andy Lines. Ten months later, in 2003, he became deputy editor of the ''Sunday Mirror''. He played club level rugby union (RU) for Bristol Rugby, and representative level rugby league (RL) for Wales and Other Nationalities, and at club level for Huddersfield, York and Hull Kingston Rovers, as a , or . Richard S. Wallace is an American author of AIML and Botmaster of A.L.I.C.E. (Artificial Linguistic Internet Computer Entity). He is also the founder of the A.L.I.C.E Artificial Intelligence Foundation. Dr. Wallace's work has appeared in the New York Times, WIRED, CNN, ZDTV and in numerous foreign language publications across Asia, Latin America and Europe. Sir Richard Wallace, 1st Baronet (21 June 1818 – 20 July 1890) was a British aristocrat, art collector and Francophile. Based on the Return of Owners of Land 1873, he was the 24th richest man in the United Kingdom and the 73rd largest landowner, holding in total in England and Ireland, with a total annual value of £86,737. In addition he had valuable property in Paris and one of the greatest private art collections in the world, part of which, now known as the Wallace Collection, was donated to the UK Government by his widow, in accordance with his wishes.
