Richard Walden
Richard Walden (4 May 1948 – 19 November 2009) was an English professional footballer. A fullback, Walden played for Aldershot and Sheffield Wednesday before joining Newport County in 1978. Walden played over 400 league games for Aldershot. He scored the opening goal for Aldershot in the 1970–71 Football League Cup against Manchester United, though Aldershot went on to lose 3–1. Walden joined Newport County in 1978 and in doing so became the first player in British football to have the fee of £3,500 set by the transfer tribunal process. Walden made 193 appearances for Newport scoring 3 goals during the most successful period in the club's long history. Hereford
Hereford ( ) is a cathedral city and the county town of the ceremonial county of Herefordshire, England. It is on the banks of the River Wye and lies east of the border with Wales, north-west of Gloucester and south-west of Worcester. With a population of 61,900 in 2024, it is the largest settlement in Herefordshire. An early town charter from 1189, granted by Richard I of England, describes it as "Hereford in Wales". 1980–81 European Cup Winners' Cup
The 1980–81 season of the European Cup Winners' Cup was won by Dinamo Tbilisi in the final against Carl Zeiss Jena. Dinamo Tbilisi's side defeated English Second Division side West Ham United away before beating Carl Zeiss Jena in a final watched by 4,750 people in Düsseldorf. This win was the high point of the Georgian side and is still the club's greatest achievement. The 1970–71 Football League Cup was the 11th season of the Football League Cup, a knock-out competition for England's top 92 football clubs. The tournament started on 17 August 1970 and ended with the final at Wembley on 27 February 1971. Tottenham Hotspur won the tournament after defeating Aston Villa in the final at Wembley Stadium, London. This was to be the last season in which it wasn't compulsory to enter the tournament. The only team who did not enter in 1970–71 was Everton, the previous season's league champions. After 1971–72 entry to the tournament became compulsory.
