Lieutenant General Sir Richard Ernest William Turner, (25 July 1871 – 19 June 1961) was a senior Canadian Army officer who served during the Second Boer War and the First World War, and was a recipient of the Victoria Cross. While Turner always displayed great personal courage while under fire, he lacked the acumen for brigade- and division-sized tactics, and the men under his command during the First World War suffered grievous losses in several battles before he was moved into administrative roles. Early life Turner was born in Quebec City, the son of Richard Turner, and worked at his father's grocery and lumber business, rising to partner before the First World War. He later took over the business, when he returned from the War. Dr Richard Turner MD FRSE OBE (1856 - April 1940) was a Scottish physician, archaeologist and geologist. Life He was born in Ratho, west of Edinburgh, in 1856, the son of John Turner, a farmer. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh graduating with an MB ChB in 1880. He practiced as a general practitioner in York. In the First World War he served the military hospitals in the York area. He received a military OBE in 1919. He was President of the Yorkshire branch of the British Medical Association. He retired to Peebles in 1921 and began to indulge his geological interests. He contributed many samples to the Royal Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh and reorganised and catalogued the entire geological collection. He undertook archaeological excavations at Romanno and Dunsyre in 1928. He was made a Burgess of Peebles in 1923. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 1924. Richard Edward Turner (born June 16, 1954) is an American expert card mechanic who is known for his card trick performances. He was the subject of the documentary ''Dealt''. Early life Turner was born in San Diego in 1954, which he dubbed "the year of the full deck" (referring to a standard 52-card deck of playing cards, plus the two jokers). At the age of seven, he became infatuated with the television show '' Maverick''. His eyesight began failing at the age of nine following his recovery from a bout with scarlet fever. The macula of each of Turner's eyes was completely destroyed, preventing forward vision. By the age of thirteen, his vision deteriorated to 20/400; over the years, what little vision Turner possessed gradually deteriorated to the point where he presently can no longer distinguish between a fully lit room and total darkness. Richard Turner (29 December 1940 – 11 January 2013), also known as Turneramon, was a British artist and poet. Life and work Richard Turner was born in Derby, England and was educated at Bemrose Grammar School, before moving to study at the School of Navigation in Warsash, Southampton. In 1958, he went on to join the Merchant Navy, as a Navigation Cadet Officer, sailing with Ellerman Lines. In 1960, he decided on a career change, and enrolled at the Derby College of Art. Turner won the J. Andrew Lloyd scholarship for Landscape, enabling him to study at the Royal College of Art in London, from 1963. There, he was tutored by Carol Weight and Sir Peter Blake. He graduated in 1966 with an Associate of the Royal College of Art Degree, as well as prizes in Life Drawing, Life Painting, and Landscape Painting. Richard Turner (1798–1881) was an Irish iron founder and manufacturer of glasshouses, born in Dublin. He is rated as one of the most important glasshouse designers of his time. His works included the Palm House at Kew Gardens (with Decimus Burton), the glasshouse in the Winter Gardens at Regent's Park in London, the Palm House at Belfast Botanic Gardens and the Curvilinear Range at the Irish National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin, Ireland. Life Turner was born in Dublin around 1798, the son of a merchant Timothy Turner and Catherine (née Sissons). Both his grandfather and great-grandfather were also ironsmiths, the elder of which worked on the provost's house at Trinity College, Dublin.
