Richard Sutton (MP, Died 1634)
Richard Sutton (died 26 April 1634), of Lincoln's Inn and later of Acton, Middlesex, was an English politician, courtier and lawyer. He was a Member (MP) of the Parliament of England for Newport, Isle of Wight in 1586 and for Newtown, Isle of Wight in 1589. He served as Auditor of the Exchequer from 1600. He owned homes in the City of London and at Acton, west London, and also the manors of Sapperton, Lincolnshire, North Bersted and Shripney in Sussex. Sutton and his wife Elizabeth (d.1625) had a daughter, also named Elizabeth, who married three times. Firstly to Sir James Altham (d.1617), Baron of the Exchequer; secondly to Sir John Ashfield (d.1635), who served as Gentleman of the Privy Chamber to Charles I; and thirdly to the Master of Sidney Sussex College, Sir Richard Minshull. Sir Richard Sutton, 1st Baronet MP (31 July 1733 – 10 January 1802), of Norwood Park in Nottinghamshire, was a British politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1768 to 1796. Family background and education Sutton was the younger son of the Right Honourable Sir Robert Sutton, KB, MP, politician and diplomat, and Judith Tichborne, previously the third wife and widow of Charles Spencer, 3rd Earl of Sunderland. Richard Edward Victor Sutton (March 31, 1901 - 1982) was a Canadian politician, who represented York—Scarborough in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1955 to 1963 as a Progressive Conservative member. Background Sutton was born in Lindsay, Ontario to James L. Lindsay and Lila Edwards. Sutton was married, in 1943, to Margherita May Hodgson (1900 - 1985), who, in turn, was related to three other Members of Provincial Parliament, Ronald Glen Hodgson, Louis Hodgson and Chris Hodgson. Sir Richard Sutton (c. 1460-1524) was an English lawyer. He was founder, with William Smyth, bishop of Lincoln, of Brasenose College, Oxford, and the first lay founder of any college. He was born in Sutton, Cheshire, the younger son of Sir William Sutton, a wealthy landowner and master of the hospital at Burton Lazars, Leicestershire. He was a barrister, and in 1499 a member of the privy council. In 1513 he became steward of the monastery of Sion, a house of Brigittine nuns at Isleworth. How Smyth and Sutton came to plan a college is not known, but in 1508 we find Edmund Croston, or Crofton, bequeathing £6, 13s. 4d. towards the building of "a college of Brasynnose" if the projects of "the bishop of Lincoln and master Sotton" were carried into effect within a stipulated period. Richard Charles Sutton was an architect based in Nottingham. He was born 1834 and died on 18 October 1915. He was a member of Nottingham City Council from 1887 to 1901. Career He was articled to Samuel Sanders Teulon and commenced independent practice in Nottingham in 1857. He went into partnership with his son, Ernest Richard Eckett Sutton, in 1894. Richard Lightburn Sutton Sr. FRSE FRGS (July 9, 1878 – May 18, 1952) was an American dermatologist. He gives the eponym for Sutton's disease (also known as aphthous ulceration, or canker sores), Sutton's naevus and Sutton's phenomenon. Over and above his contributions to dermatology, Sutton traveled widely, was a member of the American Polar Society, was an avid photographer and also a big game hunter. Richard L. Sutton Sr. received his preliminary medical education at the University of Missouri and took his M.D. degree from University Medical College (Kansas City) in 1901. Dr Richard John Sutton (23 September 1938 – 17 April 2009) was a New Zealand legal academic and chess player. He was twice the dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of Otago and was the New Zealand national chess champion in 1962–63 and 1970–72. Sutton was born in London, England. He earned BA and LLM degrees from Auckland University and an LLM from Harvard Law School. He was employed at the University of Auckland Law School and in 1980 became a full professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Otago in Dunedin. At Otago, he served on two occasions as dean of the faculty. He became an emeritus professor in 2005. Sutton also served as a Commissioner for the New Zealand Law Commission.
