Richard Simpson (martyr)
Richard Simpson (or Sympson) (c. 1553 – 24 July 1588) was an English priest, martyred in the reign of Elizabeth I. He was born in Well, in Yorkshire. Little is known of his early life, but according to Challoner's ''Memoirs of Missionary Priests'', he became an Anglican priest, but later converted to Catholicism.Challoner, Richard. He was imprisoned in York as a Catholic recusant; on being released, he went to Douai College, where he was admitted on 19 May 1577. Richard Simpson (16 September 1820–5 April 1876) was a British Roman Catholic writer and literary scholar. He was born at Beddington, Surrey, into an Anglican family, and was educated at Merchant Taylors' School and at Oriel College, Oxford. He obtained a BA degree on 9 February 1843. He was ordained in the Church of England, and became the vicar of Mitcham in Surrey, in 1844, the same year that he married his cousin, Elizabeth Mary Cranmer. He resigned his position some time before being received into the Catholic Church on 1 August 1846. He then spent more than a year on the continent, becoming very proficient as a linguist. Simpson returned to England in 1847, and settled in Clapham, Surrey. In 1850, he began to write for ''The Rambler'', a Catholic periodical founded by converts. Richard John Simpson OBE (born 22 October 1942, Edinburgh) is a Scottish Labour politician, and was Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for the Ochil constituency from 1999 until 2003 and for the Mid Scotland and Fife region from 2007 until 2016. He is a member of Unite. Medical career Simpson was educated at Perth Academy, Trinity College Glenalmond, and the University of Edinburgh. Richard Charles Simpson (born July 28, 1943) is an American former Major League Baseball right fielder and center fielder. He played from 1962-1969 for the Los Angeles / California Angels, Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis Cardinals, Houston Astros, New York Yankees and Seattle Pilots. During an 8-year baseball career, Simpson hit .207, 15 home runs, and 56 runs batted in (RBI). He was listed at 6'4" and 176 lbs. Originally signed by the Angels as a free agent in 1961, he made his debut with them on September 21, 1962 at age 19 against the Cleveland Indians. He pinch hit for pitcher Fred Newman and singled off Mudcat Grant, driving in Leo Burke in his only at bat. Dick Weldon Simpson is a professor, author, politician, activist, political consultant, and filmmaker who formerly served as a Chicago alderman from 1971 through 1979. Simpson is considered to be a progressive. An independent associated with the lakefront liberals during his time on the Chicago City Council, he ran in 1992 and 1994, unsuccessfully, as a challenger to incumbent Democrat Dan Rostenkowski in that party's primary for Illinois's 5th congressional district. From 1967 until 2022, Simpson was a professor of political science at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Richard James Simpson, formerly known as Richard James (born 1967), is an American singer and guitarist. He is a son of Renate Hoy, an actress born in Germany, and attorney Raymond C. Simpson. He grew up in the South Bay region of California and had an older brother Charles "Rock" Halsey who was a member of Rock Bottom & the Spys. As a teenager, Simpson was a member of Invisible Chains as a bass player. The band recorded one eponymous album but disbanded later on.
