Richard Roberts (actor)
Richard Charles Roberts (born November 13, 1965) is a Canadian actor. He is known for his work in various films and television. Early life Roberts was born in Hamilton, Ontario. He grew up in Edmonton, Alberta. He studied acting at the National Theatre School of Canada in Montreal, graduating in 1991. Career Roberts played Donald D'Arby in the series '' Traders'', for which he was nominated for a Gemini Award. He moved briefly to Los Angeles in 1998 appearing in the CBS series '' L.A. Doctors'' alongside Ken Olin and Sheryl Lee. Roberts returned to Canada to star in '' An American in Canada'', which ran for two seasons. Most recently, Roberts was featured in Michael McGowan's series '' Between'', guest starred opposite Kim Cattrall in ''Sensitive Skin'' (TMN/Movie Central), appeared in ''Zoom'' (Pedro Morelli), ''God and Country'' (Ken Finkleman) and the miniseries '' The Book of Negroes'' (CBC). GLAAD () is an American non-governmental media monitoring organization. Originally founded as a protest against defamatory coverage of gay and lesbian demographics and their portrayals in the media and entertainment industries, it has since expanded to queer, bisexual, and transgender people. History Formed in New York City as Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation in 1985 to protest against what it saw as the ''New York Post''s defamatory and sensationalized AIDS coverage, GLAAD put pressure on media organizations to end what it saw as homophobic reporting. ''Copper'' is a television drama series created by Tom Fontana and Will Rokos for BBC America. It is set in 1860s New York City, during the American Civil War, and stars Tom Weston-Jones as an Irish immigrant policeman, or "copper", who patrols and resides in the Five Points neighborhood. Paradise Lost
''Paradise Lost'' is an epic poem in blank verse by the English poet John Milton (1608–1674). The poem concerns the biblical story of the fall of man: the temptation of Adam and Eve by the fallen angel Satan and their expulsion from the Garden of Eden. The first version, published in 1667, consists of ten books with over ten thousand lines of verse. A second edition followed in 1674, arranged into twelve books (in the manner of Virgil's ''Aeneid'') with minor revisions throughout. It is considered to be Milton's masterpiece, and it helped solidify his reputation as one of the greatest English poets of all time. At the heart of ''Paradise Lost'' are the themes of free will and the moral consequences of disobedience. Jim Jones
James Warren Jones (May 13, 1931 – November 18, 1978) was an American cult leader, preacher and mass murderer who founded and led the Peoples Temple between 1955 and 1978. Jones and the members of his inner circle planned and orchestrated a mass murder–suicide which he described as “revolutionary suicide”, in his remote jungle commune at Jonestown, Guyana on November 18, 1978, including the assassination of U.S. congressman Leo Ryan. Jones and the events that occurred at Jonestown have had a defining influence on society's perception of cults. As a child, Jones developed an affinity for Pentecostalism and a desire to preach. ''Passage'' is a 2008 documentary film partly based on the book ''Fatal Passage'' about Franklin's lost expedition, Sir John Franklin's lost expedition through the Northwest Passage. The film explores the fate of the doomed mission, including John Rae (explorer), John Rae's efforts to uncover the truth, and Jane Griffin (Lady Franklin), Lady Franklin's campaign to defend her late husband's reputation. John Rae (explorer)
John Rae (, ; 30 September 1813 – 22 July 1893) was a Scottish surgeon who explored parts of northern Canada. He was a pioneer explorer of the Northwest Passage. Rae explored the Gulf of Boothia, northwest of the Hudson Bay, from 1846 to 1847, and the Arctic coast near Victoria Island from 1848 to 1851. In 1854, back in the Gulf of Boothia, he obtained credible information from local Inuit peoples about the fate of the Franklin Expedition, which had disappeared in the area in 1848. Rae was noted for his physical stamina, skill at hunting, boat handling, use of native methods, and ability to travel long distances with little equipment while living off the land. ''Life with Derek'' is a Canadian television teen sitcom that aired on Family Channel (English) and VRAK.TV (French) in Canada and on Disney Channel in the United States.
