Richard Muscroft
Hedley W. Muscroft (3 April 1938 – March 2023) was an English professional golfer. He played regularly on the European circuit and later on the European Tour when it started in 1972. He won the 1970 Classic International and played in The Open Championship 16 times with a best finish of 18th place in 1967. Golf career Muscroft won one important tournament, the 1970 Classic International, where he beat Christy O'Connor Snr at the fourth hole of a sudden-death playoff and took the first prize of £1,000. In 1964, he was a runner-up in the Swallow-Penfold Tournament behind Peter Alliss, and was also a runner-up in the Gor-Ray Cup, the assistants' championship. He was runner-up in the Bowmaker Tournament in 1965 and 1966 and in the 1966 Agfa-Gevaert Tournament. In 1968 he won the Evian International Open in France. Benson & Hedges Match Play Championship
The British PGA Matchplay Championship was a match play golf tournament that began in 1903 and ran until 1979. Between 1903 and 1969, the event was sponsored by the now defunct British newspaper the ''News of the World'', and was commonly known by the paper's name. Initially organised as the championship of British professionals, the event came to include invited players from other countries – in particular from around the Commonwealth (it was won on four occasions by Australia's Peter Thomson, a record number of victories shared with Dai Rees and James Braid). Glenmuir is a golf knitwear and clothing company founded in 1891 in Lanark, Scotland. For the past 25 years it has been the Preferred Supplier of shirts and knitwear to the European Ryder Cup Team. Northern PGA Championship
The Northern Professional Championship was a professional golf tournament played in Northern England. The event was generally a regional tournament but between 1923 and 1927 and in 1936 it was an open event with significant prize money. The event was started in 1920 by the Northern section of the PGA with entry restricted to members of that section. In 1923 the Championship became a national event; the Championship being extended to 72 holes with £350 in prize money under the sponsorship of the Manchester ''Daily Dispatch''. In 1925 the prize money was increased to £1000 with £350 for the winner. In early 1928 the ''Daily Dispatch'' withdrew their support for the championship which had been planned for Birkdale in July. The tournament did take place but it reverted to an event for the professionals in the Northern section of the PGA. Boys Amateur Championship
The Boys Amateur Championship is a golf tournament which is held annually in the United Kingdom. The competition is organised and run by The R&A. History The Boys Amateur Championship was first played at Royal Ascot in 1921. In 1921 boys had to be under-16 but this was raised to under-17 in 1922 and to under-18 in 1923, which is the age limit that has been retained since. The venue for the competition has been played at many golf courses throughout the United Kingdom and has frequented several golf courses on more than one occasion. Notably the first two completion were both played at Royal Ascot. The first championship started on 5 September 1921 with nearly 50 boys competing. The first day saw 14-year-old Henry Cotton play the eventual winner, Donald Mathieson, Cotton losing by 2 holes. Moor Allerton is an area of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. The area is situated in North Leeds, near to King Lane and the Leeds Outer Ring Road. Description The majority of Moor Allerton is situated in the Alwoodley ward of Leeds City Council and the southern part (below the Outer Ring Road) is in the Moortown ward. The 1991 Seniors' British Open was a professional golf tournament for players aged 50 and above and the fifth Senior British Open, held from 11 to 14 July at Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club in Lytham St Annes, Lancashire, England, United Kingdom. The 20th Ryder Cup Matches were held at Muirfield in Gullane, East Lothian, Scotland. The United States team won the competition by a score of 19 to 13 points. For the first time, what had previously been the "Great Britain" team was called "Great Britain and Ireland", although golfers from the Republic of Ireland had played since 1953, and from Northern Ireland since 1947. John Garner (golfer)
John R. Garner (born 9 January 1947) is an English professional golfer. During his playing career, Garner won one European Tour event, when he defeated Neil Coles in the final of the Benson & Hedges Match Play Championship in 1972. He didn't win again until 1998 at the Senior Tournament of Champions on the European Seniors Tour. Garner was a member of the 1971 and 1973 Ryder Cup teams. He made just one appearance in 1971, teaming up with Neil Coles in a four-ball match against Frank Beard and J. C. Snead; the Americans won 2 and 1. Garner did not play a single match in 1973. Garner is currently the teaching professional at the Manukorihi Golf Club in Taranaki, New Zealand.
