Richard Miles (aerospace Engineer)
Richard Miles is Distinguished University Professor at the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Texas A&M University. He was Chairman of the Department of Engineering Physics at Princeton for 16 years (1980–1996). He has been a member of the National Academy of Engineering since 2011. He has developed and researched lasers as tools for studying hypersonic flow patterns. Early life and education Richard B. Miles grew up in Orinda, California. He was influenced in his scientific pursuits by his older brother Tom who conducted impromptu explosive experiments in the family's backyard and home during the boys' shared childhood. While still in high school, Miles spent several summers interning at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, studying the interaction of K-mesons with deuterium under Luis Alvarez. The National Academy of Engineering (NAE) is an American Nonprofit organization, nonprofit, NGO, non-governmental organization. It is part of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM), along with the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) and the National Academy of Medicine (NAM). The campus of Texas A&M University, also known as Aggieland, is situated in College Station, Texas, United States.
