Richard Knight (speedway Rider)
Richard John Knight (born 26 May 1959) is a former international motorcycle speedway rider, who represented the England team which finished third in the 1985 World Team Cup. He earned 20 international caps for the England national speedway team. Career Knight, born in Cambridge, first rode in the British speedway leagues riding for Mildenhall Fen Tigers during the 1978 National League season. The following season he remained with Mildenhall but also appeared for Wimbledon Dons in the highest league. He significantly improved his average with Mildenhall and by 1983, his last season with the club, he was averaging 8.98. It was in 1984, that his career received a major boost when he was signed by Ipswich Witches. The Suffolk club were one of the leading clubs in the world at the time and he contributed to a league and cup double winning season. England National Speedway Team
The Great Britain national speedway team (formerly the England speedway team) is one of the major teams in international motorcycle speedway. The team is managed by former Great Britain riders Oliver Allen and Simon Stead, and captained by the Tai Woffinden. The team raced as England from 1928 to 1961 and again from 1974 to 2000. They have raced as Great Britain from 1962 to 1973 and since 2001. John Davis (speedway Rider)
John Henry Davis (born 10 November 1954 in Oxford, England) is a former international motorcycle speedway rider who represented England, when they won the World Team Cup in 1977 and 1980. Career Davis was capped for the England national speedway team 68 times, and was the first Englishman to win the prestigious Czech Golden Helmet of Pardubice. He also raced in the Swedish and Polish Leagues for Dackarna and Wybrzeże Gdańsk. He raced for Diedenbergen in the German League for ten seasons, winning four German titles, where he was consistently the top performer. He qualified for 16 consecutive British Final appearances, his best finish being second to the late Kenny Carter; this was when England ruled The Speedway World. He started his career with Peterborough Panthers, during the 1971 British League Division Two season and improved over the next two seasons to the extent that he became a regular for his home city club, the Oxford Rebels. Kelvin Martin Tatum Order of the British Empire, MBE (born 8 February 1964) is a former British international motorcycle speedway and grasstrack rider. He earned 65 international caps for the England national speedway team. Career Tatum attended Brighton College from 1977 to 1980. He started riding speedway bikes at Hackney Hawks, Hackney's training school at Hackney Wick Stadium in the winter of 1982-83. He was given his first team place at Hackney's London rivals, Wimbledon Dons, riding in the top flight British League in 1983. Philip David Collins (born 2 June 1960 in Manchester, England) is a former motorcycle speedway rider. He finished runner-up with Great Britain speedway team, England in the Speedway World Team Cup, World Team Cup final in 1984 and third in 1985. He was British Speedway Under 21 Championship, British Under-21 Champion in 1978. His transfer from Ellesmere Port Gunners, Ellesmere Port to Cradley Heathens, Cradley Heath in 1978 for £15,000 was a record transfer fee at the time. Career Collins started his British leagues career with Ellesmere Port Gunners during the 1976 National League season. Jeremy Doncaster
Jeremy Doncaster (born 16 June 1961 in Grimsby, England) is a former international motorcycle speedway rider, who won the World Team Cup with England. Speedway career Doncaster began riding for the Ipswich Witches during the 1982 British League season. He quickly built up his average and became a heat leader for the Suffolk club. He was instrumental in helping Ipswich seal the league and cup double during the 1984 British League season. His good form continued and by 1985 was considered one of the league's leading riders, during 1986 he recorded a 10.38 average. Ipswich dropped down to the second tier National League in 1988, resulting in Doncaster joining the Reading Racers, where he topped the team averages.
