Richard Hellsen
John Rickard Hellsén also known as Richard Hellsen (during his speedway career) is a former international motor speedway rider from Sweden. Career Hellsen began his career with Stjärnorna during the 1972 Swedish speedway season. The following year he made his British leagues debut riding with the King's Lynn Stars in the 1973 British League season, although he only rode 4 times that season. During the 1973 season he won the silver medal at the Swedish Junior Speedway Championship. He was a three-time gold medalist in the Swedish Pairs Championship (1979, 1981, 1982) and a five-time gold medalist in the Swedish Speedway Team Championship, in 1974, 1978, 1979, 1981 and 1982 (all whilst riding with Getingarna). Individual Individual Championship The 1980 Swedish Individual Speedway Championship final was held on 23 August in Eskilstuna. Jan Andersson won the Swedish Championship for the second time. Junior Championship Winner - Pierre Brannefors Team Team Championship Njudungarna won division 1 and were declared the winners of the Swedish Speedway Team Championship for the second time. Jan Andersson (born 7 May 1955) is a former speedway rider from Sweden. Speedway career Jan Andersson was a leading speedway rider during the 1980s reaching six Speedway World Championship finals in 1978, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1984 and 1985. He was the Swedish champion on four occasions (1979, 1980, 1981 and 1984) and Nordic Champion in 1979. He rode in the top tier of British Speedway riding for the Swindon Robins and Reading Racers from 1975 until 1992. He is regarded as a club legend at Reading. Matija Gubec Stadium
Matija Gubec Stadium ( sl, Stadion Matije Gubca) is a multi-purpose stadium in Krško, Slovenia. The stadium was built in 1946 and has a capacity of 1,470 seats. It is currently used mostly for football matches and also hosts motorcycle speedway competitions since 1957, including the Speedway Grand Prix of Slovenia as part of the Speedway Grand Prix World Championship series. Robert Dugard
Robert Leonard Dugard (3 July 1942 – 5 August 2018) was a motorcycle speedway rider and promoter from England. Career After retiring from racing, Bob Dugard joined Danny Dunton in a new company – Oxspeed Ltd – as co-promoter of Oxford Rebels at Sandy Lane, losing the name Oxford Cheetahs. Another director of the company was the jazz musician Acker Bilk. Danny Dunton
Dennis Clifford "Danny" Dunton (13 May 1924 – 2 January 2015) was an English international motorcycle speedway rider and promoter who reached the final of the Speedway World Championship in 1950, achieving 12th place with 5 points. As well as riding, Dunton promoted Peterborough Panthers and co-promoted Oxford Cheetahs, then Oxford Rebels and finally White City Rebels. Career summary Dunton was born in Cholesbury, Buckinghamshire. He first took his bike in 1949 to Harringay Racers, and immediately found himself as a team member in his first meeting, a rare if not unique feat. The 1973 British League season was the 39th season of the top tier of speedway in the United Kingdom and the ninth season of the British League. Summary Glasgow Tigers relocated to become Coatbridge Tigers. The Reading Racers won their first title, ending the dominance of Belle Vue Aces who could only finish in sixth place. Swede Anders Michanek was in imperious form, going undefeated at Reading Stadium (which was in its final year as a venue). He finished with an 11.36 average ahead of the four time world champion Ivan Mauger on 11.29. In addition to Michanek the Reading team was boosted by high scoring from Norwegian Dag Lövaas and Australian Geoff Curtis. British League Knockout Cup
The British League Knockout Cup was a speedway Knockout Cup competition in the United Kingdom governed by the Speedway Control Board (SCB) in conjunction with the British Speedway Promoters' Association (BSPA), that was staged between 1965 and 1994. The teams from the top division of league racing, the British League, took part. A similar competition was held for clubs in leagues that succeeded the British League, including the Elite League Knockout Cup and the Premier League Knockout Cup. Rules This competition was run on the knockout principle; teams drawn together race home and away matches, with the aggregate score deciding the result. In the event of the aggregate score being level, the teams again race home and away. Winners * The first leg of the final at Cradley was drawn, and the second leg at Oxford was cancelled due to bad weather.
