Richard Heaslip
Rear Admiral Richard George Heaslip Order of the Bath, CB (born 30 April 1932) is a former Royal Navy officer who served as Commodore Submarine Service, Flag Officer Submarines. Naval career Educated at Chichester High School, Heaslip became commanding officer of the submarine HMS Conqueror (S48), HMS ''Conqueror'' in 1971''Who's Who (UK), Who's Who 2010'', A & C Black, 2010, and commanding officer of the submarine HMS Valiant (S102), HMS ''Valiant'' and also Captain of the 2nd Submarine Squadron in 1975, and in that role took part in Silver Jubilee of Elizabeth II, the Queen's Silver Jubilee Fleet Review in June 1977. He went on to be Director of Defence Policy (Naval) in March 1982 and in that role provided policy advice during the Falklands War before becoming Commodore Submarine Service, Flag Officer Submarines in November 1984 and retiring in May 1987. A & C Black is a British book publishing company, owned since 2002 by Bloomsbury Publishing. The company is noted for publishing '' Who's Who'' since 1849. It also published popular travel guides and novels. History The firm was founded in 1807 by Charles and Adam Black in Edinburgh. In 1851, the company purchased the copyrights to Sir Walter Scott's ''Waverly'' novels for £27,000. The company moved to the Soho district of London in 1889. During the years 1827–1903 the firm published the seventh, eighth and ninth editions of the ''Encyclopædia Britannica''. Commodore Submarine Service
Commodore Submarine Service is a post in the Royal Navy which involves command of the Royal Navy Submarine Service. It evolved from the post of Inspecting Captain of Submarines in 1901 and would later evolve to become the post of Flag Officer Submarines in 1944. History In 1904 the Admiralty created the post of ''Inspecting Captain of Submarines'' which lasted until August 1912 when Captain Roger J. B. Keyes was appointed Commodore, Submarine Service.
