Richard Grant (born 1963) is a freelance British travel writer and memoirist based in Arizona. Life and career He was born in Malaysia, lived in Kuwait as a boy and then moved to London. He went to school in Hammersmith and received a history degree from University College, London. After graduation, he worked as a security guard, a janitor, a house painter and a club DJ before moving to America where he lived a nomadic life in the American West, eventually settling in Tucson, Arizona, as a base from which to travel. He supported himself by writing articles for ''Men's Journal'', ''Esquire'' and '' Details'', among others. Grant and girlfriend Mariah, moved to New York City briefly, before relocation to Pluto, Mississippi in August 2012. They got married there, then moved to Jackson, Mississippi in 2015. Richard Neil Grant (born 5 June 1984) is a former Welsh cricketer. Grant is a right-handed batsman who bowls right-arm medium pace. He was born at Neath, Glamorgan and was educated at Cefn Saeson Comprehensive and Neath Port Talbot College. Grant first appeared in first team county cricket in the 2004 season for Wales Minor Counties against Herefordshire. He played a handful of matches for the team in that season's competition. Having played Second XI cricket for Glamorgan since 2001, 2004 also saw him make his first team debut for the county in August in a List A match against Warwickshire in the totesport League. He played a further match in that season's competition against Essex. The following season he made his first-class debut in the County Championship against Middlesex. Sir Richard Grant Kt. (17833 March 1859) was a British Royal Navy officer who was knighted in 1820. Early life Sir Richard Grant was born in 1783 in Kingston, Colony of Jamaica. His father, Richard Grant, Esq., held the office of King's Proctor under King George III in Jamaica. He was a relative of British inventor Sir Thomas Tassell Grant. Career Richard Grant joined the Royal Navy in July 1798 as a first-class volunteer on board the HMS '' Royal Sovereign'' with Capt. William Bedford. His naval career started under Admiral Alan Gardner, 1st Baron Gardner. Appointed midshipman of the HMS '' Révolutionnaire'' in July 1801, he remained aboard the vessel until September 1804. Richard Grant (August 3, 1870 – January 9, 1958) was a Canadian track and field athlete who competed at the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris, France for the United States. He also competed in the first four Boston Marathons, one of only two athletes (the other being Lawrence Bragnolia) to have done so. In later life he lived in Habana, Cuba and wrote the words and music (with the collaboration of others) to several Presbyterian hymns. Biography Early life Grant was the son of a Presbyterian minister, born in the small farming community of Dufferin, in Haldimand County, Ontario, about three miles east of the Six Nations reserve where Tom Longboat lived. The community no longer exists, although it continued to act as a New York Central Railway stop before that line was decommissioned.
