Herefordshire (UK Parliament Constituency)
The county constituency of Herefordshire, in the West Midlands of England bordering on Wales, was abolished when the county was divided for parliamentary purposes in 1885. It was a constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of England, then of the Parliament of Great Britain from 1707 to 1800 and of the Parliament of the United Kingdom from 1801 to 1885. The undivided county was represented from 1290 by two Knights of the Shire until 1832 and three thereafter. After the county was split two new county constituencies were created, the North division or Leominster and the South division or Ross. Boundaries The constituency consisted of the historic county of Herefordshire. Although Herefordshire contained a number of parliamentary boroughs, each of which elected one or two MPs in its own right for parts of the period when Herefordshire was a constituency, these areas were not excluded from the county constituency. Richard Croft is an American opera singer who is often characterized as a lyric tenor or " Mozart tenor." Richard Croft debuted in the United States (including at the Metropolitan Opera, the Houston Grand Opera, the Washington Opera and Dallas), by singing the major roles of Mozart and Rossini, before being invited on the leading international stages ( Salzburg Festival, Paris Opera, Staatsoper Berlin, Zurich Opera, Glyndebourne Festival, Theater an der Wien among others). Richard Croft has been Professor of Voice at the University of North Texas College of Music since 2004. His brother, Dwayne Croft, is an operatic baritone. Both Croft brothers have sung leading roles in historically themed operas by the composer Philip Glass: Richard portrayed Mohandas Gandhi in ''Satyagraha'', and Dwayne portrayed Robert E. Sir Richard Croft, 6th Baronet (9 January 1762 – 13 February 1818) was an English physician to the British Royal Family and was the obstetrician to Princess Charlotte who became famous due to his role in "the triple obstetrical tragedy" of 1817. Early life and family Croft was born on 9 January 1762 at Dunster Park, Berkshire, the son of Herbert Croft and Elizabeth Young. He married on 3 November 1789 Margaret Denman, daughter of Dr. Thomas Denman and Elizabeth Brodie and the sister of Thomas Denman, 1st Baron Denman, who became Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales. They had four children: Thomas Elmsley Croft, who succeeded his father as 7th Baronet; Archer Denman Croft, who succeeded his brother as 8th Baronet; Frances Elizabeth Croft; and the Reverend Richard Croft, rector at Hillingdon, Middlesex, England.
