Richard Butler, 1st Earl Of Arran
Richard Butler, 1st Earl of Arran (1639–1686) was Lord Deputy of Ireland from 1682 to 1684 while James Butler, 1st Duke of Ormonde, his father, the Lord Lieutenant, was absent in England. He sat in the Irish House of Lords as Earl of Arran and in the English one as Baron Butler of Weston. When William Howard, 1st Viscount Stafford was accused of treason during the Popish Plot, Arran braved the anti-Catholic hysteria and voted not guilty. Birth and origins Richard was born on 15 July 1639, probably in Ireland. He was the fifth son of James Butler and his wife Elizabeth Preston. His father was then the 12th Earl of Ormond but would be elevated to marquess and duke. Richard Butler, 1st Viscount Mountgarret
Richard Butler, 1st Viscount Mountgarret (1500 – 20 May 1571) was the son of Piers Butler, 8th Earl of Ormond and Lady Margaret Fitzgerald. He married his half first cousin Eleanor Butler, daughter of Theobald Butler of Polestown, the illegitimate brother of the 8th Earl of Ormond. He was created 1st Viscount Mountgarret in 1550. Career Butler largely rebuilt the tower house at Mountgarret in County Wexford. He was described as a "Knight of goodly personage, and as comely a man as could be seen", and performed services to the Crown of England. As recompense, the Lords of the council, in their letter to the Deputy Lieutenant, St. Leger, dated at Windsor 5 August 1550, transmitted the directions of King Edward VI of England to create him Viscount Mountgarret. Richard Dwight Butler (born May 1, 1973) is a Canadian former outfielder in Major League Baseball for the Toronto Blue Jays and Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He is the brother of another former Blue Jay, Rob Butler. Career Butler was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Toronto Blue Jays on September 24, 1990. After seven years in Minor League Baseball, he was called up to play for the major league club on September 6, 1997. He played seven games that season with the Blue Jays. In the Major League Baseball expansion draft of 1997, Butler was selected 10th overall by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. In Tampa Bay's inaugural season of 1998, Butler played in 72 games at the major league level and 38 games with the Triple-A Durham Bulls. Richard William Butler, (born 13 May 1942) is a retired Australian public servant, United Nations weapons inspector, and a former Governor of Tasmania. Early life and career Butler was born in Coolah in rural New South Wales. He grew up in Sydney and was educated at Randwick Boys High School, the University of Sydney and the Australian National University, Canberra. He married Susan Ryan in 1963 and they had a son and a daughter; they divorced in 1972. Butler joined the Australian Department of External Affairs in 1965, and served in a number of postings until 1975, when he resigned to become Principal Private Secretary to the Leader of the Opposition, Gough Whitlam, who had recently been dismissed as prime minister. Richard Girnt Butler (February 23, 1918 – September 8, 2004) was an American engineer and white supremacist. After dedicating himself to the Christian Identity movement, a racialist offshoot of British Israelism, Butler founded the neo-Nazi group Aryan Nations and would become the "spiritual godfather" to the white supremacist movement, in which he was "a leading figure". He has been described as a "notorious racist". Life and ideological career Butler was born in Bennett, Colorado, the only child to Winifred Girnt and Clarence Butler. Richard Butler (born 11 November 1834 at Coteau du Lac, Lower Canada - 16 March 1925) was an editor, publisher, journalist and U.S. vice-consul in Hamilton, Ontario. Life His parents had been born in Ireland and arrived in Canada a few months before his birth. He worked from childhood, so he had little formal education. He worked first as a confectioner and baker in Montreal, and secured a job with the ''Montreal Herald'' when he was twelve years old. This enabled him to help his mother raise Butler and his three siblings, after his father had died suddenly when serving in the British 24th Foot Regiment stationed in Canada. His experience working for newspapers continued after the family moved to London, Ontario, where he found work for the ''London Free Press''.
