Richard Bull (Australian Politician)
Richard Thomas Marshall Bull (born 14 December 1946) is a former Australian politician. The son of federal National Party Senator Tom Bull and his wife Jessie, he was a farmer and grazier at Narrandera and Holbrook. On 12 March 1970 he married Patricia Anne Jeffreys; they have three daughters and a son. Bull joined the Young Country Party and was its inaugural state chairman in 1965. From 1983 to 1984 he was on the National Party's central executive, and served as campaign director in various state and federal election campaigns from 1977. In 1984, he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Council. He served as National Party leader in the Legislative Council and was also Shadow Minister for Agriculture, Gaming and Racing from 1995. The National Party of Australia – N.S.W., commonly known as "The Nationals" or the NSW Nationals, is a political party in New South Wales which forms the state branch of the federal Nationals and has traditionally represented graziers, farmers and rural voters generally. The party has generally been the junior partner in a centre-right Coalition with the NSW branch of the Liberal Party of Australia. Since 1927, the Nationals have been in Coalition with the Liberals and their predecessors, the Nationalist Party of Australia (1927–1931), the United Australia Party (1931–1943), and the Democratic Party (1943–1945). Tom Bull
Thomas Louis Bull (7 September 1905 – 11 August 1976) was an Australian politician. Born in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, he was educated at Wesley College in Melbourne, after which he returned to New South Wales as a grazier in Narrandera Narrandera ( ) until around 1949 also spelled "Narandera", is a town located in the Riverina region of southern New South Wales, Australia. The town lies on the junction of the Newell and Sturt highways, adjacent to the Murrumbidgee River, and .... He was President of the Australian Woolgrowers and Graziers Council, 1962–1965, and was also a company director. In 1964, he was elected to the Australian Senate as a Country Party Senator for New South Wales, taking his seat in 1965. He was defeated in 1970, and died in 1976. Narrandera ( ) until around 1949 also spelled "Narandera", is a town located in the Riverina region of southern New South Wales, Australia. The town lies on the junction of the Newell and Sturt highways, adjacent to the Murrumbidgee River, and it is considered the gateway to the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area. At the 2016 census, Narrandera had a population of 3,746 people. History Narrandera is a river town with a rich heritage. Captain Charles Sturt is credited with being the first European to observe the area that later was to become known as Narrandera. However Sturt, who passed through the district on 12 December 1829, was not the first explorer to cast eyes on the Murrumbidgee River. Holbrook, New South Wales
Holbrook is a small town in Southern New South Wales, Australia. It is on the Hume Highway, by road North-East of Melbourne and by road south-west of Sydney between Tarcutta and Albury. The town is in the Greater Hume Shire which was established in May 2004 from the merger of Culcairn Shire with the majority of Holbrook Shire and part of the Hume Shire. At the 2016 census, Holbrook had a population of 1,715 people. The district around Holbrook is renowned for local produce including merino wool, wheat and other grains, lucerne, fat cattle and lamb. The New South Wales Legislative Council, often referred to as the upper house, is one of the two chambers of the parliament of the Australian state of New South Wales. The other is the Legislative Assembly. Both sit at Parliament House in the state capital, Sydney. It is normal for legislation to be first deliberated on and passed by the Legislative Assembly before being considered by the Legislative Council, which acts in the main as a house of review. Rick Colless
Richard Hargrave Colless (born 12 November 1952) is an Australian politician. Colless was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council from 2000 to 2019, representing the National Party. Early years and background Colless was born in Tamworth to Kenneth Hargrave Colless and Yvonne Tipling and was raised on a rural property at Bundarra, near Inverell. He undertook primary school by correspondence from the Blackfriars Correspondence School in Sydney; and secondary education at Tamworth and Singleton High Schools. Colless won a cadetship with the Soil Conservation Service of the New South Wales, that led to studies at Hawkesbury Agricultural College. Working for the Soil Conservation Service for the next 26 years, he worked in various country towns including Henty, Cowra, Goulburn, Gunnedah and Inverell where he settled in 1987.
