Richard Bulkeley III
Richard Bulkeley, of Llangefni and Porthamel, Llanidan, Anglesey, was a Welsh politician. He was the eldest son of Rowland Bulkeley of Beaumaris, Anglesey. He was a Justice of the Peace for Anglesey from c.1593 and was appointed High Sheriff of Anglesey for 1597–98 and 1601–02. He was elected a Member (MP) of the Parliament of England for Anglesey 1589. Richard Bulkeley (died 1573)
Sir Richard Bulkeley (1524 – 1572 or 1573) was a Welsh politician. He was the eldest son of Sir Richard Bulkeley, of Beaumaris, Chamberlain of North Wales (in 1534), and his wife Catherine daughter of Sir William Griffith, Knight, of Penrhyn Castle, co. Caernarfon and his wife Jane Stradling. He was knighted at Berwick-upon-Tweed in 1547 by John Dudley, 1st Earl of Warwick and Lieutenant of the King's Army in Scotland. He was appointed High Sheriff of Anglesey in 1547, 1552 and 1561, and High Sheriff of Caernarvonshire in 1550 and 1558. and Custos Rotulorum of Anglesey bef. 1558–1572. As the leading citizen of Beaumaris he did everything possible to advance the town's interests, and obtained a charter for its incorporation from Elizabeth I in 1562. Richard Bulkeley (died 1621)
Sir Richard Bulkeley (1533 – 28 June 1621) of Beaumaris, Anglesey and Lewisham, was a Welsh politician and courtier of Elizabeth Tudor, who sat in the House of Commons of England in 1563 and from 1604 to 1614. Life Bulkeley was the eldest son of Sir Richard Bulkeley, of Beaumaris and Anglesey by his first wife, Margaret ( Savage). He was appointed Constable of Beaumaris Castle in 1561 and elected the first Mayor of Beaumaris in 1562. In 1563, he was elected Member of Parliament for Anglesey, a position he obtained through the influence of his father. He was appointed High Sheriff of Anglesey for 1570. His father's sudden death gave rise to much scandal: he was on very bad terms with his stepmother Agnes Needham and accused her of poisoning his father. While Agnes had undoubtedly been unfaithful to her husband, there is no evidence that she was guilty of murder, and the jury acquitted her. Richard Bulkeley (died 5 March 1640) was a Welsh politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1626 and 1629. Bulkeley was the eldest son of Sir Richard Bulkeley of Baron Hill, Llanfaes, Anglesey. He was admitted to Gray's Inn on 23 October 1616. He succeeded to his grandfather's estates in 1621. He served as Justice of the Peace for Anglesey and Caernarvonshire from 1626 to his death and was appointed High Sheriff of Anglesey for 1638–39. Sir Richard Bulkeley, 1st Baronet (7 September 1634 – 17 March 1685) was an Irish politician and baronet. Born at Tallaght, County Dublin, he was the oldest son of William Bulkeley, Archdeacon of Dublin, a son of Lancelot Bulkeley, Archbishop of Dublin, and his first wife Elizabeth Mainwaring, daughter of Henry Mainwaring, Archdeacon of Ossory. Bulkeley was High Sheriff of Wicklow in 1660 and sat in the Irish House of Commons as MP for Baltinglass between 1665 and 1666. On 9 December 1672, he was created a baronet, of Old Bawn, in the County of Dublin, and of Dunlaven, in the County of Wicklow. In 1659, he married as his first wife Catherine Bysse, daughter of John Bysse, Chief Baron of the Irish Exchequer, and his wife Margaret Edgeworth, and had by her two sons. Sir Richard Bulkeley, 2nd Baronet FRS (17 August 1660 – 7 April 1710) was an Irish politician and baronet. He was the elder son of Sir Richard Bulkeley, 1st Baronet and his first wife Catherine Bysse, daughter of John Bysse, sometime Chief Baron of the Irish Exchequer and his wife Margaret Edgeworth. Bulkeley was educated at Trinity College, Dublin and Christ Church, Oxford, graduating from both with a Bachelor of Arts in 1680. In the following year, he became a Fellow of Trinity College and received a Master of Arts in 1682. Bulkeley was appointed a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1685. Richard Bulkeley, 3rd Viscount Bulkeley ( – 9 August 1704) was a Welsh politician and peer. Bulkeley was the eldest son of Robert Bulkeley, 2nd Viscount Bulkeley and Sarah, daughter of Daniel Harvey of London and sister of Sir Daniel Harvey. He succeeded as Viscount Bulkeley on his father's death in 1688. He married firstly Mary, daughter of Sir Philip Egerton of Oulton, Cheshire, in 1681 with whom he had one son, Richard, who succeeded to his title. He married secondly Elizabeth, daughter of Henry White of Henllan, Pembrokeshire, without issue. He represented Beaumaris in the Parliament of England in 1679, before representing Anglesey until 1685 when he was succeeded by his father. He represented the seat again from 1690 until his death in 1704, when he was succeeded by his son. Richard Bulkeley, 4th Viscount Bulkeley (19 September 1682 – 4 June 1724), of Baron Hill, Anglesey, was a Welsh Tory politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1704 and 1724. He was extremely hot-tempered and was involved in several personal and family disputes with local Whig leaders. Early life Bulkeley was the eldest son of Richard Bulkeley, 3rd Viscount Bulkeley and his wife Mary Egerton, daughter of Sir Philip Egerton of Oulton, Cheshire. He was admitted at Christ's College, Cambridge in 1698 and was awarded MA in 1700. He married Bridget Bertie, daughter of James Bertie, 1st Earl of Abingdon, in 1703 He succeeded as Viscount Bulkeley on his father's death in 1704. Career Bulkeley held office as Constable of Beaumaris Castle from 1702 to 1716. Richard Bulkeley, 5th Viscount Bulkeley (8 April 1707 – 15 March 1739) of Baron Hill, Anglesey was a Welsh landowner and Tory politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1730 to 1738. Early life Bulkeley was the eldest son of Richard Bulkeley, 4th Viscount Bulkeley and his wife Bridget Bertie, daughter of James Bertie, 1st Earl of Abingdon. He was educated at Westminster School in 1718. On his father's death on 4 June 1724, he succeeded to the family estate at Baron Hill, and the Irish peerage as Viscount Bulkeley. In 1725 he was appointed Chamberlain of North Wales and constable of Beaumaris castle and held the posts for the rest of his life. Career Bulkeley was returned unopposed as Member of Parliament for Beaumaris at a by-election on 25 March 1730. Richard Bulkeley (civil Servant)
Richard Bulkeley (26 December 1717 – 7 December 1800) was an influential administrator in Nova Scotia from 1749 to 1800. Historian Phyllis Blakeley writes that Bulkeley, "assisted 13 governors and lieutenant governors from Cornwallis to Wentworth. In half a century of service he took part in the founding of Halifax, the immigration of New Englanders and loyalists, and the prosperity of the French revolutionary wars." During his lifetime, known for hosting dignitaries and grand parties, he was known as "the Father of the Province." When he died, he was the last surviving settler who arrived with Cornwallis. Career During Father Le Loutre's War he was an Aide-de-camp to three consecutive Governors of Nova Scotia: Cornwallis, Hobson and Lawrence. During the French and Indian War he also served on the Nova Scotia Council (1759-1800).
