Richard Browne (died 1604)
Sir Richard Browne (ca. 1539 – 1604), of Horsley, Essex and later of Sayes Court, Deptford, Kent, was an English politician. He was a younger son of John Browne of Colchester, Essex and trained in the law at either the Inner or Middle Temple. He was knighted in 1603. He was a Member (MP) of the Parliament of England for Lichfield in 1584, Newtown (Isle of Wight) in 1593, Cirencester in 1601 and Harwich Harwich is a town in Essex, England, and one of the Haven ports on the North Sea coast. Sir Richard Browne, 1st Baronet, Of Deptford
Sir Richard Browne, 1st Baronet of Deptford (c. 1605 – 12 February 1682/83) was English ambassador to the court of France at Paris from 1641 to 1660. Life Browne was the son of Christopher Browne and Thomazine Gonson. His grandfather was Sir Richard Browne, Kt. Clerk of the Green Cloth from 1594 until his death in 1604. A tablet in the church at Deptford mentions that the family was a younger branch of the ancient Browne family of Hitchin, Suffolk and Horsley, Essex. Browne played the part of Diana in Robert White's 'Masque of Cupid's Banishment' performed for Anne of Denmark at Deptford on 4 May 1617. He matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford, on 26 June 1623, aged eighteen, and gained the degree of BA as a member of St Alban Hall the same year. John Evelyn
John Evelyn (31 October 162027 February 1706) was an English writer, landowner, gardener, courtier and minor government official, who is now best known as a diarist. He was a founding Fellow of the Royal Society. John Evelyn's diary, or memoir, spanned the period of his adult life from 1640, when he was a student, to 1706, the year he died. He did not write daily at all times. The many volumes provide insight into life and events at a time before regular magazines or newspapers were published, making diaries of greater interest to modern historians than such works might have been at later periods. Sayes Court was a manor house and garden in Deptford, in the London Borough of Lewisham on the Thames Path and in the former parish of St Nicholas. Sayes Court once attracted throngs to visit its celebrated garden'' Diary and Correspondence of John Evelyn'' created by the seventeenth century diarist John Evelyn. Now completely buried beneath Convoys Wharf and Sayes Court Park, the area shows little sign of its former glory, despite having been a key factor in the creation of the National Trust.
