Richard Brock
Richard Brock (22 December 1938 – 30 December 2024) was a British television and film producer. He worked in the BBC as a natural history film producer for 35 years. Brock was a member of the production team on the highly successful David Attenborough series '' Life on Earth'' (1979) and served as executive producer on '' The Living Planet'' (1984). Concerned by the lack of willingness to address the real state of the environment, he left the BBC and started his own independent production company, Living Planet Productions, which has made over 100 films on a wide range of environmental topics, and set up the Brock Initiative, which is undertaking a number of pilot projects in different countries. Brock lived in Chew Magna, Somerset. A nature documentary or wildlife documentary is a genre of documentary film or television documentary, series about animals, plants, or other non-human living creatures. Nature documentaries usually concentrate on video taken in the subject's natural habitat, but often including footage of trained and captive animals, too. David Attenborough
Sir David Frederick Attenborough (; born 8 May 1926) is an English broadcaster, biologist, natural historian and writer. He is best known for writing and presenting, in conjunction with the BBC Studios Natural History Unit, the nine nature documentary series forming the ''Life'' Collection, a comprehensive survey of animal and plant life on Earth. Attenborough was a senior manager at the BBC, having served as controller of BBC Two and director of programming for BBC Television in the 1960s and 1970s. ''Life on Earth: A Natural History by David Attenborough'' is a British television natural history series made by the BBC in association with Warner Bros. Television and Reiner Moritz Productions. It was transmitted in the UK from 16 January 1979. During the course of the series presenter David Attenborough, following the format established by Kenneth Clark's ''Civilisation'' and Jacob Bronowski's ''The Ascent of Man'' (both series which he designed and produced as director of BBC2), travels the globe in order to trace the story of the evolution of life on the planet. The Living Planet
''The Living Planet: A Portrait of the Earth'' is a BBC nature documentary series written and presented by David Attenborough, first transmitted in the UK from 19 January 1984. The sequel to his pioneering '' Life on Earth'', it is a study of the ways in which living organisms, including humans, adapt to their surroundings. Each of the twelve 55-minute episodes (one fewer than his previous series) featured a different environment. The executive producer was Richard Brock and the music was composed by Elizabeth Parker of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. Part of David Attenborough's 'Life' series, it was followed by '' The Trials of Life'' (1990). Chew Magna
Chew Magna is a village and civil parish within the Chew Valley in the unitary authority of Bath and North East Somerset, in the ceremonial county of Somerset, England. The parish has a population of 1,149. To the south of the village is Chew Valley Lake. The village is on the B3130 road, about from Bristol, from Bath, from the city of Wells, and from Bristol Airport. The village is close to the northern edge of the Mendip Hills (a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), and was designated a conservation area in 1978. There are many listed buildings reflecting the history of the village. The River Chew flows through the village.
