Richard Blankenbecler
Richard Blankenbecler (born 1933, in Kingsport, Tennessee) is an American theoretical particle physicist. He is a professor emeritus with the SLAC Theory Group at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) at Stanford University. In 1954, Blankenbecler received his B.A. in physics from Miami University and in 1958 he received his doctorate from Stanford University. After his Ph.D., he became a postdoc at Princeton University and a Sloan Research Fellowship in 1962. In 1963 he became assistant professor and in 1966 a full professor at Princeton where he collaborated with Marvin Goldberger and Sam Treiman where they worked on fundamental papers on quantum field theory. A Sloan Research Fellowship supported his work on dispersion relations and scattering amplitudes. After Princeton in 1966, Blankenbecler moved to the University of California at Santa Barbara where he taught and did research on quantum field theory. Kingsport, Tennessee
Kingsport is a city in Sullivan and Hawkins counties in the U.S. state of Tennessee. It lies along the Holston River and had a population of 55,442 at the 2020 census. Sam Treiman
Sam Bard Treiman (; May 27, 1925 – November 30, 1999) was an American theoretical physicist who produced research in the fields of cosmic rays, quantum physics, plasma physics, and gravity physics. He made contributions to the understanding of the weak interaction and he and his students are credited with developing the Standard Model of elementary particle physics. He was a Higgins professor of physics at Princeton University, a member of the National Academy of Sciences and member of the JASON Defense Advisory Group. He was a student of Enrico Fermi and John Alexander Simpson Jr. Treiman published articles on quantum mechanics, plasmas, gravitation, condensed matter and the history of physics. The Stanford Physics Information Retrieval System (SPIRES) is a database management system developed by Stanford University. It is used by universities, colleges and research institutions. The first website in North America was created to allow remote users access to its database. History SPIRES was originally developed at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) in 1969, from a design based on a 1967 information study of physicists at SLAC. The system was designed as a physics database management system (DBMS) to deal with high-energy-physics preprints. Written in PL/I, SPIRES ran on an IBM System/360. Stanley Brodsky
Stanley J. Brodsky (born January 9, 1940) is an American theoretical physicist and emeritus professor in the SLAC Theory Group at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory at Stanford University. Biography Brodsky obtained an undergraduate degree in 1961 and Ph.D. in physics in 1964 from the University of Minnesota, where his advisor was Donald R. Yennie. After two years as a research associate for Tsung-Dao Lee at Columbia University, in 1966 he began working for SLAC, where he became a professor in 1976. Brodsky's research has focused on quantum chromodynamics, which is the theory describing the strong interactions between quarks and gluons. Bremsstrahlung
In particle physics, bremsstrahlung (; ; ) is electromagnetic radiation produced by the deceleration of a charged particle when deflected by another charged particle, typically an electron by an atomic nucleus. The moving particle loses kinetic energy, which is converted into radiation (i.e., photons), thus satisfying the law of conservation of energy. The term is also used to refer to the process of producing the radiation. Sidney Drell
Sidney David Drell (September 13, 1926 – December 21, 2016) was an American theoretical physicist and arms control expert. At the time of his death, he was professor emeritus at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) and senior fellow at Stanford University's Hoover Institution. Drell was a noted contributor in the fields of quantum electrodynamics and high-energy particle physics. The Drell–Yan process, which was used to discover the Higgs boson, is partially named for him. Monte Carlo methods, or Monte Carlo experiments, are a broad class of computational algorithms that rely on repeated random sampling to obtain numerical results.
