Richard Bacon (politician)
Richard Michael Bacon (born 3 December 1962) is a British politician who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for South Norfolk from 2001 until 2024. He is a member of the Conservative Party. Early life Bacon was educated at The King's School, Worcester and then studied at the London School of Economics and Political Science, gaining a first in Politics and Economics. He was also executive editor of the student newspaper, '' The Beaver''. He worked variously in investment banking, financial journalism and public relations consultancy, before setting up his own business advising blue chip international companies on communications. Parliamentary career Bacon joined the Conservative Party in 1978. In 1997, he unsuccessfully contested the South-London constituency of Vauxhall, against the Labour incumbent, Kate Hoey. Richard Mackenzie Bacon (1776–1844) was an English Whig journalist, newspaper proprietor, printer, musician, teacher, and writer. Life He was born in the parish of St Peter Mancroft Norwich 1 May 1776 the only son of Richard Bacon (1745-1812), a printer and proprietor of the Norwich Mercury, one of the leading provincial Whig newspapers. He was educated at the Norwich grammar school and joined his father’s business in 1794. Family Bacon married Jane Louisa Noverre in 1797 (d.1808). She was the daughter of Augustine Noverre, a French dancer who came to England in 1775. Richard Noverre Bacon (1798 – 1884) was an English newspaper editor, known as a writer on agriculture. Life He was the son of Richard Mackenzie Bacon of Norwich, and brother of Louisa Mary Bacon. His journalism, over his years editing the '' Norwich Mercury'' which he took over from his father, promoted the current views on political economy. He was cool on the role of the monarchy. Works Bacon was an admirer of Thomas William Coke, and one of his aspiring biographers, as reported by Francis Blaikie. His work in that direction was in vain, however: Thomas Keppel, Coke's brother-in-law, took over as official biographer, gathering in the existing materials, and his biography was then lost in manuscript. HMT Richard Bacon
was a British Castle class naval trawler completed in 1918. She served through both world wars under two different names and also had a lengthy career as a civilian fishing trawler. For a short while, she functioned as a support vessel for a famous transatlantic flight by a group of Italian bombers. She was scrapped in 1954 after her boiler failed during a storm. History First World War and subsequent civilian service ''Richard Bacon'' was one of 217 Castle class trawlers laid down for the British government in the First World War. Displacing standard and armed with a single 12-pounder gun, she was mostly used for coastal anti-submarine patrols. ''Richard Bacon'' was built at Cook, Welton & Gemmell at Beverley. Dick Bacon
Dick Bacon (September 9, 1932 – August 18, 2000) was a nudist or naturist from Milwaukee, Wisconsin who was known for outdoor tanning every day of the year. He worked at Pabst Brewery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He sun tanned year-round at Milwaukee's Bradford Beach on Lake Michigan. Bacon also frequented a nude beach in Milwaukee called Paradise Beach. Tanning Bacon could be seen tanning at Bradford Beach from the 1960s through the 1990s, including in freezing weather. If the beach was covered in snow, Bacon would have a path cleared to his tanning spot. Bacon said that he only wanted to work enough to support himself. He claimed to be planning for retirement from the time he was a child.
