Rich Wolfe
Rich Wolfe (died August 31, 2020) was an American sports writer and marketer who wrote over fifty books, mainly about unique team's fan cultures. As marketing manager for the Continental Basketball Association's team Quad City Thunder, he produced memorable halftime shows which included chainsaw juggling, a Jackson Five puppet show and Moore's Mess of Mutts. Wolfe later went on to be the owner of the Cedar Rapids Sharpshooters, a member of the Global Basketball Association for the 1992-3 season. He lost the franchise in 1992 for "financial reasons" and later sued the Five Seasons Center and the new owners for slander. Wolfe grew up in Lost Nation, Iowa and played basketball and baseball at Notre Dame. He was inducted as one of Leahy's Lads (playing under coach Frank Leahy) in 2006. The Continental Basketball Association (CBA), originally known as the Eastern Pennsylvania Basketball League, and later as the Eastern Professional Basketball League and the Eastern Basketball Association, was a men's professional basketball minor league in the United States from 1946 to 2009. Quad City Thunder
The Quad City Thunder was a Continental Basketball Association (CBA) franchise that was based in the Quad Cities of Illinois and Iowa. They played in the CBA from the 1987–88 season until the CBA folded in 2001. The Thunder were successful on the court, capturing CBA championships in the 1993–94 and 1997–98 seasons, and runner-up in the 1990–91 season. Jackson Five
The Jackson 5, later known as the Jacksons, are an American pop band composed of members of the Jackson family. The group was formed in Gary, Indiana in 1964, and originally consisted of brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael. They were managed by their father Joe Jackson. The group were among the first African American performers to attain a crossover following. The Jackson 5 first performed in talent shows and clubs on the Chitlin' Circuit and eventually signed with Steeltown Records in 1967, under which their first two singles were released. The Global Basketball Association (GBA) was a professional basketball minor league based in the United States. The majority of the league's franchises were based in the Southern United States, with the remaining teams located in the Midwest. The league announced plans for franchises in European cities that never materialized. The league began play in 1991 and lasted one and a half seasons before folding in December 1992. Five Seasons Center
Alliant Energy PowerHouse (formerly Five Seasons Center and later U.S. Cellular Center) is a multi-purpose arena located in the downtown area of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It was financed by the approval of a voter referendum to allocate special municipal capital improvement bond monies, after several prior bond referendums to build a civic center failed between 1965 and 1977. The initial construction cost was approximately $7 million for the arena and facilities. The city approved an additional $1 million to build an adjacent multi-level parking facility connected to the center by a skywalk. Lost Nation is a city in Clinton County, Iowa, United States. The population was 434 at the time of the 2020 United States census, 2020 census. History The area which would later formally become Lost Nation was known by that name as early as 1855, though the origin of the name is unknown. Francis William Leahy (August 27, 1908 – June 21, 1973) was an American college football player and coach, college athletics administrator, and professional sports executive. He served as the head football coach at Boston College from 1939 to 1940 and at the University of Notre Dame from 1941 to 1943 and again from 1946 to 1953, compiling a career college football record of 107–13–9. His winning percentage of .864 is the second best in NCAA Division I football history, trailing only that of fellow Notre Dame Fighting Irish football, Notre Dame Fighting Irish coach Knute Rockne, for whom Leahy played from 1928 to 1930. ''2 Minute Drill'' is an ESPN game show based on the general knowledge UK game show ''Mastermind''. The program aired from September 11, 2000 to December 28, 2001. ESPN Classic aired reruns of the series daily at 11:30 a.m. Eastern. Kenny Mayne hosted the show, and began each player's turn at the front game by telling them, "Your 2-minute drill begins now!"
