Rich Township High School Fine Arts Campus, formerly known as, Rich South High School (RSHS) is a public four-year high school located in Richton Park, Illinois, a southern suburb of Chicago, Illinois, Chicago, in the United States. Rich Township's campus serves the cities of Matteson, Illinois, Matteson, Park Forest, Illinois, Park Forest, Richton Park, Olympia Fields and University Park, Illinois, University Park. It is a part of Rich Township District 227. Renovations A new auditorium was completed for the 2006–2007 school year. A new cafeteria was completed for the 2008–2009 school year. This renovation included converting the old cafeteria into a new media center, and converting the old media center into additional classroom space. Richton Park is a village and south suburb of Chicago in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 12,775 at the 2020 census. History Richton Park sits along the Sauk Trail, a major trail used by the several Native American tribes for travel. By the 1840s German migrants settled in the area and created a small farming community. The village was named after a Richton in Vermont, the native home of a first settler. On the evening of June 7, 2008, an EF2 tornado went through portions of Richton Park, damaging homes and businesses. Geography Richton Park is located at (41.481992, -87.725352). University Park, Illinois
University Park is a village in Will County with a small portion in Cook County in the U.S. state of Illinois. It is a south suburb of Chicago. The village is one of the region's few planned communities; it was developed in the 1960s as Wood Hill, then Park Forest South, and finally University Park. Governors State University was established in the village in 1969. The village population was 7,145 at the 2020 census. Rich Township High School is a public four-year high school located in the south suburbs of Chicago. It operates two campuses: one in Richton Park, Illinois, and one in Olympia Fields, Illinois. The district enrolls nearly 2,500 students from all or portions of Chicago Heights, Country Club Hills, Olympia Fields, Matteson, Richton Park, Park Forest, Tinley Park, and University Park. History Rich East High School opened in 1952, becoming the first school in the district and located in Park Forest. The second school, Rich Central High School opened in Olympia Fields in 1959. Nina Chanel Abney
Nina Chanel Abney is an American artist, based in New York. She was born in Harvey, Illinois. She is an African American contemporary artist and painter who explores race, gender, pop culture, homophobia, and politics in her work. Personal life In 2015, Abney said that she and her father started to rebuild their relationship. After a fire at their home, Abney and her mother moved in with her aunt in Matteson, Illinois where she attended Rich South High School. Abney said that she would get teased about "talking white" by other students. In order to connect with other students, she would take requests to draw "portraits of famous black figures in pop culture". Abney began to explore art more formally in high school. She always knew that she wanted to be an artist, but she was not sure what that would look like.
