''Rich Is the Treasure'' is a 1952 crime novel by the British writer Maurice Procter. It is the second in a trilogy featuring Scotland Yard Detective Superintendent Philip Hunter, which he wrote alongside the better known series featuring Chief Inspector Harry Martineau. The plot revolves around a gang creating counterfeit diamonds. Maurice Procter
Maurice Procter (4 February 1906 – 28 April 1973) was an English novelist. He was born in Nelson, Lancashire, England. Early life Maurice Procter was born in Nelson, Lancashire, on 4 February 1906. His parents were Rose Hannah and William Procter, a weaver, who had two other sons, named Edward, nicknamed Ned, and Emmot. The family lived in Charles Street, Edward and Maurice attended Nelson Grammar School before running away to join the army at age 15. He had lied about his age so his parents tried to secure his release from the army, but even with the support of their local MP they were unsuccessful. After the army Maurice worked briefly as a weaver in a Lancashire cotton mill. In 1927 Maurice joined the police as a constable in Halifax, Yorkshire. Montgomery Tully (6 May 190410 October 1988) was an Irish film director and writer. Film career Born in Dublin, Tully studied at the University of London, and originally entered the film industry as a director of documentaries. Later, Tully worked on low-budget British films, and is mostly known for his crime dramas. One of his films, ''No Road Back'' (1957), featured Sean Connery in a very early role. His last film, ''The Terrornauts'', was made in 1967. Philip Wyndham Friend (20 February 1915 in Horsham, Sussex – 1 September 1987 in Chiddingfold, Surrey) was a British film and television actor. Dennis O'Keefe (born Edward Vanes Flanagan, Jr., March 29, 1908 – August 31, 1968) was an American actor and writer. Early years Born in Fort Madison, Iowa, O'Keefe was the son of Edward Flanagan and Charlotte Flanagan, Irish vaudevillians working in the United States. As a small child, he joined his parents' act and later wrote skits for the stage. He attended the University of Southern California but left midway through his sophomore year after his father died. ''The Diamond'' is a 1954 British film noir crime film directed by Montgomery Tully /Dennis O'Keefe (see Production section, below) and starring Dennis O'Keefe, Margaret Sheridan and Philip Friend. It is based on the 1952 novel ''Rich Is the Treasure'' by Maurice Procter. It was released by United Artists in Britain and in America, where it was known as ''The Diamond Wizard''. It is notable for being Britain's first 3D film, though according to the British Film Institute, it was shown in 3D only once, on 13 September 2006 in Hollywood. Despite the 2006 showing the film was listed on the BFI 75 Most Wanted list of lost films.
