This is a list in alphabetical order of Namibian cricketers who have played first-class cricket. Prior to 1915, what is today Namibia was German South West Africa, a German colony. Cricket was recorded as being played in German South West Africa prior to the First World War, and later during the war by occupying South African troops. When the former colony was incorporated into South Africa following the war, cricket grew in popularity. What was the Territory of South West Africa gained independence from South Africa in 1990, with a Namibian cricket team having been formed in 1989. The national team first played first-class cricket in the 2004 Intercontinental Cup against Uganda at Windhoek. In the 2006-07 South African cricket season, Namibia were added to the CSA 3-Day Cup, the second tier of first-class cricket in South Africa; this arrangement lasted until 2018, when Namibia withdrew citing issues around costs and logistics. Karl Birkenstock (born 27 March 1996) is a Namibian cricketer. He made his first-class debut for Namibia against Western Province in the 2016–17 Sunfoil 3-Day Cup on 6 October 2016. His List A debut in the 2016–17 CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge was on 15 January 2017. In March 2019, he was named in Namibia's squad for the 2019 ICC World Cricket League Division Two tournament. Namibia finished in the top four places in the tournament, therefore gaining One Day International (ODI) status. Birkenstock made his ODI debut on 27 April 2019, against Oman, in the tournament's final. In May 2019, he was named in Namibia's squad for the Regional Finals of the 2018–19 ICC T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier tournament in Uganda. Vernon Ricardo Cloete (born 20 September 1985) is a Namibian former first-class cricketer. Career in sport Cloete was born at Rehoboth in September 1985 and was educated at Windhoek High School. He made his debut in first-class cricket for Namibian against Griqualand West in the 2013–14 CSA 3-Day Cup, with Cloete making four first-class appearances in that edition of the competition and a fifth in the 2014–15 edition. In five first-class appearances, Cloete scored 30 runs with a highest score of 25. With his off break bowling he took 5 wickets at an average of 61.00, with best figures of 3 for 76. Gareth Cloete (born October 13, 1978) was a Namibian cricketer. He played with the Namibian under-19s cricket team at the Under-19s Cricket World Cup in 1998. He was generally used as a lower-order batsman, generally ninth or tenth within the Namibian batting lineup, as well as being used, as an attacking bowler in partnership with Rudi Scholtz. Sarel Francois Burger (born 13 February 1983) is a Namibian former cricketer, who has played for Namibia's national cricket team. He is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-fast bowler. He played in two One Day Internationals in the Cricket World Cup in 2003. He also participated in List A cricket between 2001 and 2004 and participated in the ICC Trophy in July 2005.
