Rhythm Methodist
''Rhythm Methodist'' (typeset as ''RHYThM METhODIST'' on the 2005 version) is the fourth studio album by Phil Beer (sixth including the Phil Beer Band studio albums). Recorded at Riverside Studio whilst on a break from Show of Hands, the album is a double album, with disc one, ''Songs'', containing cover versions of songs, whilst disc two, ''Instrumentals'', consists almost entirely of Beer's arrangements of traditional, instrumental pieces. An eclectic array of instruments, influences and guest musicians feature on the album. It was released in May 2005 by Hands on Music, before an altered re-release occurred in 2008 which features the music on one disc instead of two and a different typeface on the artwork. The album was critically acclaimed, with praise given to Beer's musicianship, skill and singing voice. Phil Beer
Phil Beer (born 12 May 1953) is an English multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, and one half of English acoustic roots duo Show of Hands. Biography Beer first began to play fiddle, guitar, and mandolin whilst still at school in Teignmouth, Devon. This passion for acoustic music was especially influenced by the Davey Graham album '' Folk, Blues and Beyond''. He played his first gig when he was fourteen in a band called Retrospect with Richard Entwistle, John Allman and Martin Pike and other musicians, and by the time he was sixteen he was performing regularly. Beer worked with Paul Downes as a duo from 1974 and also in the Arizona Smoke Revue 1980. He was a key member of Johnny Coppin's band (ex-Decameron), and together they collaborated with Nigel Mazlyn Jones on his 1979 ''Sentinel'' album. Jackson Browne
Clyde Jackson Browne (born October 9, 1948) is an American rock musician, singer, songwriter, and political activist who has sold over 30 million albums in the United States. Emerging as a teenage songwriter in mid-1960s Los Angeles, he had his first successes writing songs for others. He wrote "These Days (Jackson Browne song), These Days" as a 16-year-old; the song became a minor hit for the German singer and Andy Warhol protégé Nico in 1967. A cameo appearance, also called a cameo role and often shortened to just cameo (), is a brief guest appearance of a well-known person or character in a work of the performing arts. Acadian Driftwood
"Acadian Driftwood" is a song by the Band. It was the fourth track on their sixth studio album '' Northern Lights – Southern Cross'' (1975), written by member Robbie Robertson. Richard Manuel, Levon Helm and Rick Danko trade off lead vocals and harmonize on the chorus. Overview The song is a portrayal of the troubled history of Nova Scotia and Acadia. Specifically, it is about the Expulsion of the Acadians during the war between the French and the British over what is now Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and most of Maine. Robertson's lyrics were influenced by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's 1847 poem '' Evangeline'', which describes the deportation of Acadians. The Band was a Canadian-American rock music, rock band formed in Toronto, Ontario, in 1957. The Neville Brothers were an American R&B/soul/funk group, formed in 1976 in New Orleans, Louisiana. History The group notion started in 1976, when the four brothers of the Neville family, Art (1937–2019), Charles (1938–2018), Aaron (b. 1941), and Cyril (b. 1948) came together to take part in the recording session of the Wild Tchoupitoulas, a Mardi Gras Indian group led by the Nevilles' uncle, George Landry ("Big Chief Jolly"). Out For The Count
''Out for the Count'' is the third album by Show of Hands. The album follows Phil Beer's departure from The Albion Band in 1990, allowing Show of Hands to become a full-time partnership. Recorded straight to Digital Audio Tape in The Old Court, Devon, in 1991, the duo released the album later on in the year on cassette, becoming the final of their cassette-only releases. The album was released to a positive reception from concert goers, but as with the duo's previous releases, it did not bring the bang attention from any publications. The duo followed the release with their first CD release, ''Show of Hands Live'' (1992). By 1995, ''Out for the Count'' and the duo's first two albums were out of print, so the duo released the compilation album ''Backlog 1987–1991'' (1995) containing material from the three albums, including five songs from ''Out for the Count''. John "Johnny" Coppin (born 5 April 1946) is an English singer-songwriter, composer, poetry anthologist and broadcaster. He plays guitar and piano and has written and recorded many albums as a solo artist. Chris While (born 1956) is an English songwriter, singer and musician, known particularly for her vocals and live performances.
