The Rhode Island Open is the Rhode Island state open golf tournament, open to both amateur and professional golfers. It is organized by the Rhode Island Golf Association. It has been played annually since 1929 at a variety of courses around the state. Rhode Island
Rhode Island (, like ''road'') is a state in the New England region of the Northeastern United States. It is the smallest U.S. state by area and the seventh-least populous, with slightly fewer than 1.1 million residents as of 2020, but it is the second-most densely populated after New Jersey. It takes its name from the eponymous island, though most of its land area is on the mainland. Rhode Island borders Connecticut to the west; Massachusetts to the north and east; and the Atlantic Ocean to the south via Rhode Island Sound and Block Island Sound. Kirk Hanefeld (born May 24, 1956) is an American professional golfer. Hanefeld was born in Claremont, New Hampshire. He played collegiately at the University of Houston. Gary Marlowe (born March 7, 1967, in Berlin) is a German musician, composer and music producer. Life Marlowe began playing piano at four. He started as a professional musician in the 1980s, as a session keyboardist, and soon became a producer. He studied Composition for Film with the Academy Award winners Luis Bacalov and Nicola Piovani at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, Italy. He is currently working in Bavaria and Berlin, also in Italy and Los Angeles. Billy Andrade
William Thomas Andrade (born January 25, 1964) is an American professional golfer who currently plays on the PGA Champions Tour. He was previously a member of the PGA Tour, where he was a four-time winner. Early life Andrade was born in Bristol, Rhode Island. He is an American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) alum and 1981 Rolex Junior Player of the Year. He attended the Providence Country Day School for high school and then made his way to Wake Forest University where he helped lead the Demon Deacons to the 1986 NCAA Championship. Bob Menne
Robert Menne (February 19, 1942 – June 2, 2023) was an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour, the Champions Tour, and the European Seniors Tour. Menne was born and raised in Gardner, Massachusetts, where he was graduated from Gardner High School in 1960. He attended college at the University of Miami in the early 1960s, and turned pro in 1965. Menne had at least seven top-10 finishes in PGA Tour events during his career including a win at the 1974 Kemper Open, which was held at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. He won that tournament in a playoff with Jerry Heard. Menne also finished in a first-place tie with Lee Trevino at the end of regulation at the 1970 National Airlines Open Invitational but lost on the second extra hole of a playoff. Dana Quigley
Dana C. Quigley (born April 14, 1947) is an American professional golfer. Quigley was born in Lynnfield, Massachusetts. He graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 1969 and turned professional in 1971. Quigley's career in regular tournament golf was unremarkable. He worked as a club professional for many years and had 18 tournament victories in local tournaments in New England. His best finish on the PGA Tour was sixth at the 1980 Greater Milwaukee Open. In 1997, Quigley became eligible to play in senior golf tournaments, and he soon became a leading player at this level. His first win on the Senior PGA Tour (later called the Champions Tour) came at that year's Northville Long Island Classic. In 2005 at age 58, he led the Champions Tour money list and became the oldest player to win the Arnold Palmer Award for the leading money-winner on the circuit. He has won 11 tournaments on the tour. Rodney Butcher
Rodney Butcher (born February 4, 1970) is an American professional golfer. Butcher was born in Weymouth, Massachusetts. He went to Florida Southern College (where he was a three-time NCAA Division II All-American) and graduated in 1992 with a degree in finance. He turned pro that same year. Butcher played on the Nike Tour (now Nationwide Tour) full-time in 1998. He does not currently play on a specific tour, and over the years has not amassed much success on either the PGA Tour or the Nationwide Tour. He has, however, won many state opens along with the 2003 Bay Mills Open Players Championship on the Canadian Tour.
