''Contarinia'' is a genus of midges, small flies in the family Cecidomyiidae. There are over 300 described species in the genus. Description As cecidomyiids, adult ''Contarinia'' are flies with hairy wings and long antennae. Males have antennal flagellomeres equally binodose, with each node surrounded by one circumfilum. The palpi are four-segmented. The tarsal claws of the legs are simple. The wing costal vein is interrupted after its union with the radius or third vein. The genus was erected by Rondani and commemorate the naturalist Nicolò Bertucci Contarini. Ecology Many species of ''Contarinia'' have herbivorous larvae that attack inflorescences, fruits, or buds of plants. They include a number of crop pests, such as ''C. nasturtii'' (attacks various parts of cruciferous plants), ''C. citri'' (attacks flowers of citrus), ''C. pisi'' (attacks flower buds of legumes), ''C. caryafloralis'' (attacks inflorescences of Chinese hickory) and ''C. pruniflorum'' (attacks ...

AlgaeBase
AlgaeBase is a global species database of information on all groups of algae, both marine and freshwater, as well as sea-grass. History AlgaeBase began in March 1996, founded by Michael Guiry. Text was copied from this source, which is available under Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0)licence. (Sehere. By 2005, the database contained about 65,000 names. In 2013, AlgaeBase and the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) signed an end-user license agreement regarding the Electronic Intellectual Property of AlgaeBase. This allows the World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS) to include taxonomic names of algae in WoRMS, thereby allowing WoRMS, as part of the Aphia database, to make its overview of all described marine species more complete. Synchronisation of the AlgaeBase data with Aphia and WoRMS was undertaken manually until March 2015, but this was very time-consuming, so an online application was developed to semi-automate the synchronisation, launching in 2015 in con ...
