Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis
The (, ) is a Kreis (Districts of Germany, district) in the Cologne Bonn Region of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Neighboring districts are Mettmann (district), Kreis Mettman, Oberbergischer Kreis and Rhein-Sieg, and the district-free cities Cologne, Leverkusen, Solingen and Remscheid. History The area of the ''Bergisches Land'' belonged to the Grand Duchy of Berg, earldom of Berg for most of medieval times, which gives the district its name. In 1816, after the whole Rhineland area was given to Prussia, the districts of Wipperfürth, Mülheim, Lennep, Opladen and Solingen were created in the area now covered by the district. In 1819, Opladen and Solingen were merged into the new Solingen district. In 1929, a new Rhein-Wupper district was created, and several municipalities were incorporated into the cities of Wuppertal, Remscheid and Solingen. Bergisch Gladbach () is a List of cities and towns in Germany, city in the Cologne/Bonn Region of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, and capital of the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis (district). Wermelskirchen (; Ripuarian language, Ripuarian: ''Wärmelßkirrshe'') is a town in the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, southeast of Remscheid. It is home to one of Europe's biggest live Christmas trees (measuring 26m). Geography The distance to Cologne is about 35 kilometers, to Düsseldorf about 45 kilometers. Rösrath (; ) is a town in the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis (district) in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The earliest known documents mentioning the settlement ''Rösrath'' can be found in documents dated to 1356. There have been findings of Paleolithic and Mesolithic tools in the town area ''Forsbach''. The community was elevated to the town status in 2001. Geography Rösrath is located in the immediate vicinity of Cologne. Overath (; ) is a town in the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis, Rheinisch-Bergischer district of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Geography Overath is located about 25 km east of Cologne, in the Berg (German region), Bergisches Land. Despite the reclassification as a 'Stadt' (town, though the German understanding leans towards city) years ago due to surpassing the relevant population threshold, the former appellation Gemeinde (parish) seems more appropriate (particularly to the inhabitants) due to the spread-out villages it consists of. The main settlement is in the Agger River, Agger valley, with others spread on the hills surrounding it. The Duchy of Limburg or Limbourg was an imperial estate of the Holy Roman Empire. The Grand Duchy of Berg (), also known as the Grand Duchy of Berg and Cleves, was a territorial grand duchy established in 1806 by Napoleon after his victory at the Battle of Austerlitz (1805) on territories between the French Empire at the Rhine river and the German Kingdom of Westphalia.
