Rhea Carmi
Rhea Carmi (Hebrew: ברוריה כרמי, born 1942) (variant name: Bruria Carmi), is an Israeli American abstract and mixed-media artist and sculptor. Life and work Carmi was born in Jerusalem. She studied visual art at Tel-Aviv University 1974-1976, and attended Ramat-Gan Institute for The Arts 1977-1979. Her mentors were Israeli artists Arie Aroch and Motti Mizrachi. Carmi utilizes a variety of media—oils, sand, water, treated paper, canvas and wood—which she layers, smooths and sculpts. The paintings are a personal diary of the artist. Carmi is a member of the ARTROM Gallery Guild and served as juror for Abstract Forms for the ARTROM International Art Competition 2008 She lives and works in Los Angeles, California. Hebrew
Hebrew (; ; ) is a Northwest Semitic language of the Afroasiatic language family. Historically, it is one of the spoken languages of the Israelites and their longest-surviving descendants, the Jews and Samaritans. It was largely preserved throughout history as the main liturgical language of Judaism (since the Second Temple period) and Samaritanism. Bruriah
Bruriah ( he, ברוריה or he, ברוריא, also Beruriah) is one of several women quoted as a sage in the Talmud. She was the wife of the Tanna Rabbi Meir and the daughter of Hananiah ben Teradion. Biography Bruriah lived during the first and second century in Roman-occupied Israel and was the daughter of Rabbi Hananiah ben Teradion, one of the Ten Martyrs, who was burned to death for his faith, as was Bruriah's mother. She had two known siblings, a brother, Simon ben Hananiah, who turned to a life of crime after failing to match Bruriah's success as a teacher, an unnamed sister, who was sold into sexual slavery and later rescued from a Roman brothel by Bruriah's husband, Rabbi Meir. She is greatly admired for her breadth of knowledge in matters pertaining to both halachah and aggadah, and is said to have learned from the rabbis 300 halachot on a single cloudy day. Shaped Canvas
Shaped canvases are paintings that depart from the normal flat, rectangular configuration. Canvases may be shaped by altering their outline, while retaining their flatness. An ancient, traditional example is the '' tondo'', a painting on a round panel or canvas: Raphael, as well as some other Renaissance painters, sometimes chose this format for madonna paintings. Alternatively, canvases may be altered by losing their flatness and assuming a three-dimensional surface. Or, they can do both. That is, they can assume shapes other than rectangles, and also have surface features that are three-dimensional. Arguably, changing the surface configuration of the painting transforms it into a sculpture. But shaped canvases are generally considered paintings. Riverside Art Museum is an art museum in the historic Mission Inn District of Riverside, California. The museum is a non-profit organization which focuses on addressing social issues and offers art classes as well as other events in order to inspire and build community. The building was originally design by Julia Morgan to serve the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) in 1929. YWCAs provided important spaces for women to a part of the urban environment.
