Ashok Subron
Ashok Kumar Subron (born 13 November 1963) is a Mauritian trade unionist turned politician and leader of Rezistans ek Alternativ. Early life Upon his birth at the Moka, Moka Hospital on 13 November 1963, Ashok Subron was registered by 2 female hospital workers who jointly brought him up at their respective homes. He studied at the Montagne-Ory Primary School, and then attended St Andrews Secondary School. Labour Party (Mauritius)
The Labour Party (, PTr) is a centre-left social democratic political party in Mauritius. It is one of four main Mauritian political parties, along with the Mauritian Militant Movement (MMM), the Militant Socialist Movement (MSM) and the Parti Mauricien Social Démocrate (PMSD). The party is led by Navin Ramgoolam. It tends to be more popular amongst Indo-Mauritians, especially in more rural areas. Founded in 1936, the Labour Party is the oldest major political party in the Republic and has remained in power from 1948 to 1982, from 1995 to 2000 and from 2005 to 2014. 2019 Mauritian General Election
General elections were held in Mauritius on 7 November 2019. The governing Alliance Morisien, which changed its name from Alliance Lepep before the election, came to power in 2014 after defeating the Labour Party-led government in an upset. Pravind Jugnauth became prime minister in 2017, succeeding his father, Anerood Jugnauth. The opposition denounced the transition, claiming it was nepotism. The Alliance Morisien bloc comprised Prime Minister Jugnauth's Militant Socialist Movement (MSM), Muvman Liberater (ML), Mouvement Alan Ganoo (MAG) and Plateforme Militante. 2010 Mauritian General Election
General elections were held in Mauritius on 5 May 2010. The coalition comprising Mauritius Labour Party under Navin Ramgoolam, the Militant Socialist Movement under Pravind Jugnauth and the Mauritian Social Democrat Party under Xavier-Luc Duval won a majority with 41 seats in the parliament. The Mauritian Militant Movement-led coalition under Paul Berenger finished second with 18 seats. The Mauritian Solidarity Front won one seat and the Rodrigues Movement won the two remaining seats. General elections were held in Mauritius on 3 July 2005, with votes counted on 4 July. The '' Alliance Sociale'', a coalition led by the Mauritian Labour Party (PTr) and including the Mauritian Party of Xavier-Luc Duval (PMXD), the Mauritian Social Democrat Party (MSN), '' Les Verts'' (Greens), the Republican Movement, and the Mauritian Militant Socialist Movement (MMSM), won the election with 42 of the 70 seats (38 elected directly, and another 4 nominated under the country's "best loser" system). The Mauritian Militant Movement (MMM; ) is a left-wing socialist political party in Mauritius. The party was founded by a group of students in the late 1960s. The MMM advocates a fairer society, without discrimination on the basis of social class, race, community, caste, religion, gender or sexual orientation.
