Reykjavík Mosque
The Reykjavík Mosque ( is, Moskan í Reykjavík) is a mosque and gathering area for Muslims in Iceland. It is located in the Ármúli district. The mosque was opened in 2002 by the Muslim Association of Iceland after requesting the city government for permission to build a purpose-built mosque in 2000, with no swift response. Services It offers Friday prayers every week and it is also open for all other prayers during the day from Fajr to Isha. In January 2009, a new wooden altar was built by members of the association. On Sundays, there are Quran lessons for kids of different ages. There are also meetings for different subjects of Muslims in Iceland. Ibrahim Sverrir Agnarsson
Ibrahim Sverrir Agnarsson (born 1948) was the chair of the Muslim Association of Iceland from 2010–2015. Biography Ibrahim Sverrir was born in 1948. Ibrahim Sverrir encountered Islam while living as a hippy and working as a horse-trainer for Spaghetti Westerns in Almería in Spain in 1970. Living in an Arab castle, he became interested in the inscriptions on the walls. He travelled to Istanbul, on to Peshawar, bought a horse there and spent some months riding in the mountains of Afghanistan, Pakistan, and China. During this period he converted to Islam. Eiríkur Örn Norðdahl
Eiríkur Örn Norðdahl (born 1 July 1978) is an Icelandic writer. For a long time most noted as an experimental poet, he has recently also come to prominence as one of Iceland's foremost prose writers. The Icelandic Ethical Humanist Association () is a humanist lifestance organization in Iceland, that promotes secularism, offers celebrancy services and contributes to the spreading of humanism in Iceland and abroad. It is a member of the European Humanist Federation and Humanists International. History Siðmennt - the Icelandic Ethical Humanist Association (IEHA) was founded in February 1990, after running a successful civil confirmation program in the year before. The organization was named ''Siðmennt'', which is derived from the Icelandic words "sið-" meaning "ethical" or "tradition" and "-mennt" for "education". The Progressive Party ( is, Framsóknarflokkurinn, FSF) is an agrarian political party in Iceland. For most of its history, the Progressive Party has governed with the Independence Party. Icelandic Municipal Elections, 2014
Municipal elections took place in Iceland on 31 May 2014. 66% of eligible voters cast votes, the lowest proportion since Iceland gained independence. As part of a pledge, Mayor Jón Gnarr's Best Party did not participate in the election and was dissolved after the election was held. On 11 June 2014, a coalition was announced of the Social Democrats, Bright Future, the Left-Greens, and the Pirate Party. Dagur B.
