Reyhan Topchubashova
Reyhan Topchubashova ( az, Reyhan Topçubaşova; 15 December 1905 – 5 March 1970) was an Azerbaijani painter, Honored Art Worker of the USSR. Biography Reyhan Topchubashova was born on December 15, 1905, in Quba. She studied at Technical School of Art in Baku in 1931-1935. In 1941-1945 she was Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Union of Artists of Azerbaijan. Since 1943 she was the Honored Art Worker of the USSR. In 1923 Reyhan Topchubashova married a doctor Mustafa Topchubashov. Her son Ibrahim Topchubashov was born in 1924, and in 1927 Zemfira and Elmira twins were born. She was one of the first Azerbaijani women painters. The artist's works had been displayed in national exhibitions since 1936. Reyhan Topchubashova has worked in portrait, domestic, landscape genres, as well as compositions and still lifes. The nature of Absheron is the main theme in her landscape works. Quba
Quba () is a city and the administrative centre of the Quba District of Azerbaijan. The city lies on the north-eastern slopes of Shahdag mountain, at an altitude of 600 metres above sea level, on the right bank of the Kudyal river. It has a population of 38,100 (2010). History Quba was mentioned in works of various European geographers, in ancient Arabic and Albanian sources. The castle built by the ruler Anushiravan in the 11th century was called "Bade-Firuz Qubat", and in the Arabic sources of the XII century Quba was mentioned as "Cuba". In the 13th century, in the Dictionary of Geographical names of Arabian scientist Hamabi it was mentioned among the Azerbaijani cities as Kubba, and in the sources of 16th century Quba was referred to as "Dome". Maiden Tower (Baku)
The Maiden Tower ( az, Qız qalası; fa, قلعه دختر) is a 12th-century monument in the Old City, Baku, Azerbaijan. Along with the Shirvanshahs' Palace, dated to the 15th century, it forms a group of historic monuments listed in 2001 under the UNESCO World Heritage List of Historical Monuments as cultural property, Category III. It is one of Azerbaijan's most distinctive national emblems, and is thus featured on Azerbaijani currency notes and official letterheads. The Maiden Tower houses a museum, which presents the story of the historic evolution of Baku city. It also has a gift shop.
