Reyes Cup
The Reyes Cup is an annual nine-ball pool tournament contested between teams representing Asia and Europe. Similar in format to the Mosconi Cup, the inaugural event was held in Manila, the capital city of the Philippines, during October 2024 and is named after Filipino Hall of Fame player Efren Reyes, whom the event’s organizers describe as being “widely regarded as the sport’s greatest-ever player.” Asia won the inaugural event 11–6. Format The contest is played over four days between two teams of five players. Three players for each team qualify automatically and each captain can pick two wildcards. There are twenty matches, each a best of nine racks with players having alternate breaks. The match winner wins one point and the first team to eleven points wins the Reyes Cup. Nine-ball
Nine-ball (sometimes written 9-ball) is a discipline of the cue sport pool. The game's origins are traceable to the 1920s in the United States. It is played on a rectangular billiard table with at each of the four corners and in the middle of each long side. Using a cue stick, players must strike the white cue ball to nine colored billiard balls, hitting them in ascending numerical order. An individual game (or ) is won by the player pocketing the . David Alcaide
David Alcaide Bermúdez (born 14 December 1978) is a Spanish professional pool player. He is a two-time winner of the World Pool Masters, winning the 2017 event, defeating Jayson Shaw 8–7 in the final, and again in 2019 defeating Alexander Kazakis 9–8. Alcaide is a three-time world championship semi-finalist having reached the stage at the WPA World 10-ball Championship, in 2009 and 2015, and the WPA World Eight-ball Championship in 2011. Alcaide has also represented Europe at the Mosconi Cup in 2006, 2017, 2021 2022, 2023 and 2024 with five wins. At the 2006 event, he was the first Spanish player to compete in the competition. In addition to pool, Alcaide also plays snooker, having competed at the 2019 Gibraltar Open professional snooker event. In team sports, a most valuable player (MVP) award is an honor typically bestowed upon an individual (or individuals, in the instance of a tie) whose individual performance is the greatest in an entire league, for a particular competition, or on a specific team. Ko Pin-yi
Ko Pin-yi (born 31 May 1989) is a Taiwanese professional pool player. He became multiple World Champion in the disciplines of Nine-ball and Ten-ball in 2015. Career Ko won the World Nine-ball Junior Championship twice in his junior career, in 2007 and 2008. Ko became a multiple world champion in 2015, winning three world titles in a single calendar year. He defeated Carlo Biado, 11–9 in the final of the 2015 WPA World Ten-ball Championship, followed by beating Shane Van Boening, 13–11 in the 2015 WPA World Nine-ball Championship final, Ko also captured its country's first World Cup of Pool title alongside Chang Yu-lung, defeating England B of Mark Gray and Daryl Peach, 10–8 in the final. Johann Chua
Johann Gonzales Chua is a Filipino professional pool player from Manila. His nickname is "Bad Koi". Chua is a 2023 World Cup of Pool champion alongside James Aranas. He is also a two-time All Japan Championship winner, winning the event in 2015 and 2017. In 2024, Chua was crowned the Mansion Sports Hanoi Open Pool Championship winner. Aloysius Yapp
Aloysius Yapp (; zh, s=叶浚惟, p=Yè Jùnwéi; born 2 May 1996) is a Singaporean professional pool player. He was the world junior champion in nine-ball in 2014 and runner-up in the 2021. In 2025, Yapp defeated Jonas Souto Comino of Spain 13–1 in the final of the UK Open Pool Championship, claiming his first major open title. Career Yapp began playing pool at age eight. An alumnus of Saint Patrick's School, he dropped out of school in 2011 to turn professional, although he eventually completed his GCE Ordinary Level examinations at Coleman College. Carlo Biado
Carlo Biado (born October 31, 1983) is a Filipino professional pool player. His highest profile wins include the World Nine-ball Championship and the World Ten-ball Championship in 2017 and 2024 respectively. Early life Biado has roots in Rosario, La Union and/or Nueva Ecija. He started playing pool when he was age 13 and worked as a caddie at the Villamor Air Base golf course while he was still a student. After work he would play billiards in the evening. He stopped pursuing high school education when he was on his first year and the sport serves as a means of livelihood. He earned money from bets in the billiards place he helps manage. Francisco Sánchez Ruíz (born December 29, 1991) is a Spanish professional pool player, nicknamed "The Ferrari" and by his initials "FSR". He won both the 2022 WPA World Eight-ball Championship and the 2023 WPA World Nine-ball Championship. Eklent Kaçi (born January 29, 1999), also known as Klenti Kaçi is an Albanian professional Pool (cue sports), pool player. Kaçi won the WPA World Ten-ball Championship in 2021 and 2023 and reached the semi-finals of the 2017 WPA World Nine-ball Championship and final of the 2024 WPA World Nine-ball Championship.
