Abel Rey
Abel Rey (; 29 December 1873, Chalon-sur-Saône – 13 January 1940, Paris) was a French philosophy of science, philosopher and history of science, historian of science. Abel Rey succeeded Gaston Milhaud as professor of the history of philosophy in its relation to science at the University of Paris, Sorbonne, and established the Institut d'histoire des sciences et des techniques to encourage cooperation between the sciences and humanities. It has been argued that Rey influenced Philipp Frank and the formation of the Vienna Circle. Rey's history of science was wide, including sciences from physics to sociology, and deep, ranging from antiquity to the present; moreover, it included the study of culture's influence on the sciences of the time. Louis Emmanuel Rey
Louis Emmanuel Rey (born 22 September 1768, Grenoble – died 18 June 1846, Paris) was a French soldier. He joined the French royal army and won rapid promotion to general officer during the French Revolutionary Wars. He continued to serve the First French Empire during the Napoleonic Wars. He fought in the Peninsular War and led a tenacious defense of San Sebastián, Spain in 1813. His is one of the names inscribed under the Arc de Triomphe. Louis-Charles-Joseph Rey (26 October 1738 – 12 May 1811) was a French classical cellist, the brother of Jean-Baptiste Rey. Louis-Charles-Joseph Rey was born in Lauzerte. Like his brother, he began as a choirboy at the Abbey of Saint-Sernin, where he studied music. At the age of sixteen, he joined the theater in Montpellier as a cellist. José Manuel Rey Cortegoso (born 20 May 1975) is a Venezuelan former footballer who played as a central defender, currently a manager. Known as ''Pokémon'' and ''Tetero'', and a free kick specialist, he represented mainly Caracas in a 20-year professional career. Jean Rey (; 15 July 1902 – 19 May 1983) was a Belgian Liberal politician who served as the second president of the European Commission from 1967 to 1970. He served as European Commissioner for External Relations from 1958 to 1967. The 1983–1984 academic year at the College of Europe was named in his honour. Early life Born in Liège into a Protestant family, Jean Rey studied law at the University of Liège, where he obtained a PhD in 1926. He began his career as a barrister at the Court of Appeal in Liège. His commitment to the Walloon Movement drew him into politics. Jean Rey (; c. 1583 – c. 1645) or (''in English'') John Rey was a French physician and chemist. Born in Le Bugue, in the Périgord (Dordogne '' département''), he studied medicine at the University of Montpellier. He practised medicine in his native town and corresponded with René Descartes and Marin Mersenne. He discovered that the weight of lead and tin increases when they are calcinated, and attributed this phenomenon to the weight of air, which he believed to become denser when heated (''Essays'', 1630). He explained the greater weight of calcinated lead and tin by supposing that calcination involves the incorporation of air in the metal. This hypothesis would later be confirmed by Antoine Lavoisier, over a century later in 1789. Jean-Baptiste Rey (18 December 1734 – 15 July 1810) was a French conductor and composer. Rey was born at Lauzerte. He remains the longest-serving conductor of the Paris Opera; his tenure spans from the last years of the monarchy to Napoleon's Empire (1776–1810). As such, he conducted most performances of masterpieces by Gluck, Piccini, Sacchini, Salieri, Gretry, Méhul, Haydn, Mozart, Spontini, etc., many of whom he cooperated with closely. He was the author of an opera, ''Apollon et Coronis'' (1781) and several other pieces and arrangements. Rey also wrote the third act of Sacchini's '' Arvire et Évélina'' (1788).
