Rex Omar
Rex Omar (real name Rex Owusu Marfo) is a Ghanaian highlife artist. He first rose to prominence in 1989 with the Aware Pa album which also included the track, Wodofo Ne Hwan? Following this, in 1992 he formed the Highlife Supergroup Nakorex together with fellow Highlife artists Nat Brew and Akosua Agyapong, the group's name being an acronym made up of the first letters of each member's name. He then pursued a solo career. He performed together with Sony Achiba. In 2004 Omar was nominated for a Kora award, and in 2005 he was nominated as Artiste of the Year in the Ghana Music Awards. Following the break-up of the group he eventually became the head of the Ghana Music Rights Organisation ( GHAMRO), and in his role as an advocate for greater copyright protections for Ghanaian musicians successfully lobbied president John Agyekum Kufuor to withhold asset to the new Copyright Bill in order for protections to be strengthened. Amandzeba Nat Brew (also referred to as Nat Brew (Amandzeba), and Amandzeba), is a Ghanaian highlife artist. Early life Amandzeba is an alumnus of the Christian Methodist Senior High School in Accra. Musical career Amandzeba first became known as part of the band Nakorex, formed in 1992 with Akosua Agyapong and Rex Omar. Amandzeba later became married to Akosua Agyapong, though they were subsequently divorced. Amandzeba is most known in Ghana for his song ''Wogbejeke'', off the album of the same name. Following the success of ''Wogbejeke'', Nat Brew adopted the name Amandzeba, meaning "Tradition Child" or "Custom Child", to reflect his African roots. In January 2020 Amandzeba signed with US label Jah Mikal Entertainment and announced the release of a new album and a collaboration with the US rapper, Michael Morgan, to make a remix of ''Wogbejeke''. John Agyekum Kufuor
John Kofi Agyekum Kufuor (born 8 December 1938) is a Ghanaian politician who served as the President of Ghana from 7 January 2001 to 7 January 2009. He was also Chairperson of the African Union from 2007 to 2008. Kufuor's career has been spent on the liberal-democratic side of Ghanaian politics, in the parties descended from the United Gold Coast Convention and the United Party. A lawyer and businessman, he was a minister in Kofi Abrefa Busia's Progress Party government during Ghana's Second Republic, and a Popular Front Party opposition frontbencher during the Third Republic. Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) is a royalties collection agency within Ghana, that represents the rights of music copyright holders. It was created under section 49 of the Copyright Law, Act 690 of 2005. The agency collects royalties for all rights owners in Ghana. Kora Awards
The KORA All Africa Music Awards are music awards given annually for musical achievement in sub-Saharan Africa. The awards were founded in 1994 by Benin born businessman, Ernest Adjovi, after a discussion in Namibia with the country's President Hage Geingob. The award is named after the kora, a West African plucked chordophone. The awards have been subject to several postponements since 1994 with a variety of reasons given. Problems have arisen with contracts signed, large sums of monies have been paid and the event postponed. In 2011 Adjovi was detained by the Nigerian Police Force with allegations he defrauded three Nigerian bodies. In 2008 Adjovi allegedly accepted S2.5 million for the 2008 Awards to be hosted by the Cross River State Government. Emmanuel John Bandick Dankwa (affectionately known as Sony Achiba, Oseikrom Prince Charles and Indian Man) is a Ghanaian-born Bristish hiplife artist and dancer. He is the first Ghanaian to combine hip hop, hi-life and Indian style of music in Ghana and beyond. Early life and education Achiba was born in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana to J. B. Highlife
Highlife is a music genre that started in present-day Ghana in the 19th century, during its history as a colony of the British Empire and through its trade routes in coastal areas. It describes multiple local fusions of African metre and western jazz melodies. It uses the melodic and main rhythmic structures of traditional Akan music, Kpanlogo Music of the Ga people, but is typically played with Western instruments. Highlife is characterized by jazzy horns and multiple guitars which lead the band and its use of the two-finger plucking guitar style that is typical of African music. Recently it has acquired an uptempo, synth-driven sound. Highlife gained popularity in the genre "Native Blues" prior to World War II before production was shut down.
